The definition of appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.
We've all seen those 365-day appreciation challenges that are constantly advertised across social media platforms.
I have yet to try it, but I have seen the intentions it places in those that participate in the act. There are so many ways that society comes up with to show appreciation, but we as a population are often too lazy to do anything.
That's why it's merely just another thing you "want" to try. People suggest writing down what you envision, what you desire or what you're grateful for. When do we ever try that? Maybe here and there, but we don't do it with any consistency.
Like with anything in life, showing appreciation takes willpower, and you have to choose to show how important it truly is to you. Trying to set that bar can be taxing and strenuous.
We are lazy beings. Or, we are just comfortable and too stubborn to take another route. We don't like change unless we benefit from it. But, if we can't see how we benefit from the beginning, what's so appealing about the aftertaste?
Simple. We don't know it yet.
We get so caught up in our own melodrama that we forget life actually exists outside of ourselves. If you don't think you're a selfish person, take a step back and look at your mind. See how it runs without instruction.
That's why appreciation is so damn important. It's what keeps us humble and thankful.
I feel as if we are all subconsciously thankful for so many things. Actually acting on your appreciation is a completely different concept. Showing your gratitude through active appreciation is what gets you the results you're looking for.
Sometimes it takes a certain scenario, situation or change of circumstances for us to acknowledge how much we actually care and what exactly we are thankful for.
You lose something simply because you aren't showing the effort in order to keep it. Or, you lose your house and realize you didn't do enough to stop that from happening.
It all starts with an intention based on your level of appreciation.
Appreciation is the supreme healing tool. It can primarily shed light on any situation and helps you better yourself in the midst of substantial decision-making. It's a booster, helping you branch out and reach for what you truly desire for yourself.
It keeps you straight whenever you're feeling insane. It brings out the best in you when you need it the most.
But, it takes the burning desire to pull appreciation out from within and share its intoxicating effects to the rest of the world.
