Most of the music we hear on the radio consists of blocked out profanities, excessive EDM music, or songs that are extremely overplayed. This music gives me a greater appreciation and longing for the type of music that gives you the chills, that makes you feel good and that brightens your day. And for me, I won't find it in something like "Trap Queen."
This is why I love John Mayer's music so much, no matter how often I listen to it I hear new meanings, appreciate the way it makes me feel and simply relax. Music is wonderful, don't get me wrong, I appreciate it in all forms. The way music can transform my mood, resurface a specific memory, or even bring me to tears. But, while most music I tend to get tired of after awhile John Mayer is one of the few artists who I always turn back to.
It's interesting to think what type of music we're all individually drawn to, but with John Mayer, the slow-pace, unique sound of each guitar strum and raspy sound soothe me almost to sleep. Not to mention his lyrics are some of the most artistic sounding ones I've ever heard.
"Wherever you go, wherever you are, I watch your life play out in pictures from afar." - In Your Atmosphere
" Four more exits, to my apartment but I am tempted to keep the car in drive, and leave it all behind." -Why Georgia
"I will beg my way into your garden, I will break my way out when it rains." -I Don't Trust Myself With (Loving You)
The majority of his music is coded with hidden sexual innuendos, or him admitting to everyone that he's a player. Virtually no other artists can write these things as poetically as John Mayer. To have an entire audience singing about how he "doesn't trust himself with loving" someone, is pretty incredible.
The way he strings together lyrics is nothing short of impressive, look up the lyrics to "Paper Doll" and try to tell me otherwise.
Even "Gravity," "Why Georgia," "Your Body is a Wonderland," "In Your Atmosphere" and "Vultures"; The lyrics all prove the same thing to me, that this beautiful man knows how to write and sing.
His music is the perfect way to wake up, relax and get your day off to a nice start and it never gets old. If you ask me a morning full of coffee, a nice book and John Mayer music is a morning well spent.
