I didn't know what to write about for my first article. I started my own blog, but that requires a lot of research that is different than this. I tried to think of things that people would be interested in reading about. I thought of multiple things, but one thing stood out... the little things in life. I know a lot of college students get wrapped up in school and making new friends that they forget to stop and forget to breathe.
We wake up with a dozen things on our mind of what to do for the day. We get dressed and walk on the day like every other day. For us college students we go to class then lunch then back to class. We might have some committee meetings here and there, but overall our day is full of classes. For me, I start my day at 6:00am and most days don't end until 5:00pm. I have classes throughout the day and work three times a week with meetings for my organizations at various times throughout the week. As we just finish the first week for this year everyone is getting their schedules memorized, learning the best way to study and reuniting with their friends or making new ones. How often as college students do we stop and pay attention to the little things in life? How much do we stop and smell the roses?
College students have so much on their plate, how can they stop and appreciate what is in their life? Appreciation means recognizing and enjoying things in our lives that don't always stand out all the time. For example, appreciating that the sun comes up, or that there are flowers blossoming, or even the new friends that will soon be life long friends. Enjoying the little things in life can help your mood everyday. You can wake up and think about all of the things that went wrong yesterday and what will happen today or you can think about all of the things that you learned from and start over. Many people would call people like that idealist and I am an idealist. I want to believe in the best in everything. I truly believe that the only way for someone to really become aware of their surrounding is in their attitudes. Mine is being an idealist and showing everyone the good in every situation.
It's all in your attitude. With everything that goes on in our world attitude is everything, it sets the tone for the rest of your day and others. Everyone affects others, you can make someone's day just by smiling at them. Something simple can cause so much happiness to a person that knowing how to make someone happy is the little thing that means the world. So as we continue into the school semester, I challenge everyone who reads this to stop whatever you are doing and appreciate the things in little things in life that means more than anything. Smile and say hi to someone as you walk past them, invite someone to eat lunch with you and most importantly appreciate yourself. Appreciate your beauty inside and out because you will find that that will eliminate stress, worry and might even boost your grades.
