Over the past summer I was under a lot of stress for many different reasons. Between stressing over the coming school year, work, and most of all not having done any internships within my major or close to it. I am now a senior in college, so if I did not get any internship within my major of creative writing and journalism, I was going to be in deep trouble. People always want to make fun of people's majors and what they want to do with it. It is not nice to do that at all though and it is morally wrong. Don't criticize someone for doing something that they are good at doing and something that they love to do. You never know that the person you are making fun of will make it out and have everything that they ever wanted and you who made fun of him will have nothing or not be as far off. Internships and having experience are really what helps right now in getting a good job. Internships and your resume seem to play a huge part in finding a job and being successful. Connections also help of course. Going to college has transitioned from being an alright thing to do that wasn't needed to now in today's age being an absolute necessity. A lot of the time like many others I stress about not getting a job after college and of not being able to pay my loans off. It is a harsh reality in fact, thinking about it while sitting alone. I strive to do the best I can in everything that I do and work hard to get what I want.

So, over the summer I was desperately searching for an internship, applying on various websites and searching the web. This is where I stumbled upon the website Odyssey, an amazing website that had a lot of style and accomplishments. I saw that it was great and upcoming, improving over time. I realized it was not clear cut journalism, nonetheless still good for my writing degree. Some people that I know were writing articles for the website and I wanted to join them as well. I figured for obvious reasons that it would be a perfect fit for me. Likewise, I applied out of trying to find an internship on their website. As soon as I applied online, I was highly welcomed in the community and felt like a part of the family. Other internships that I applied to didn't even reply at all or replied after a long time.

After working for a couple of weeks at Odyssey, I realized how great it truly is. They are always trying to improve the website and make it better in every way. They give you all the tools and the format to be able to write great articles. Specifically, I love the set up of the three top articles every week and I love how easy it is to get started writing an article. They let you write about whatever you want to write about, they give you a vast amount of freedom. Writing one article a week on anything you want, for me, is amazing. I was very highly welcomed and integrated into a great community of other writers who are at my college.

I wanted to say a thank you to Odyssey above all. Particularly, I give a great heartfelt thank you from the bottom of my heart. In turn, you saved my life and were able to let me use my talents and improve my skills. I want to make you proud and I want to make my family proud. Identically, I want to lift my family up and be successful. I wanted to also thank the people and fans that read my articles every week and that share them, you are partially the reason I write and that drive me to continue writing. I thank you for the support and for the many compliments that have been said to me about either my writing or any of my skills.

This opportunity is another step in the right direction and on the correct path. For sure I have not taken this internship for granted. In time I will try to help the website and give back to the community. I am a humble man who always gives thanks to people for their help and for giving me opportunities. A lot of the time I can see a lot of talent of other writers after reading their articles. Some really surprise and enlighten me. Because of them I have been able to grow and hone my writing skills and various talents. I have been able to showcase a portfolio of my own work which helps out a lot. I am able to get my name out there in the world. Honestly, it is a great website and it really helped me out a lot. From being stressful of not getting an internship, I ended up getting a great one and being able to do what I love to do, write. It has been able to spark my passion and be able to put my own emotion and heart into my articles. Passion is very important because it gives you that extra motivation and drive. The drive to be successful, the drive to be a man, the drive to be risky and not care about what others think. For a long time I had no clue what I wanted to do, I always thought that I was going down the wrong road. I thought that I was throwing my life away. I have realized that when you are so low and down, something great can happen out of nowhere. You have to hold on to hope and be confident. It really has shown me what I want to do in my life. So do not forget about the man who started writing for the Odyssey and turned it into something big later down the line.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
