One of the most influential electronic acts of all time is finally returning to America.
Aphex Twin will be performing at this year's Day For Night music festival in Houston. This will be his first US performance since Coachella 2008.
Richard D. James has been hailed as an inspiration from the likes of Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Daft Punk. His last LP, 2014's Syro, was a nominee for the Mercury Prize in 2015, an amazing feat considering it was his first official LP release since 2001's Drukgs (not including the wormhole of his extensive EP releases released under anonymous identities and pseudonyms). Aphex Twin released two more EPs under his name in 2015: Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments and the Orphaned Deejay Selek (2006-2008). Earlier this year, Aphex Twin released his latest EP Cheetah, andµ-Ziq (Mike Paradinas) also reissued his 1996 collab with Aphex Twin, Expert Knob Twiddlers, for its 20th Anniversary—complete with seven new bonus tracks. Whew!
Talking to Billboard Dance about getting Aphex Twin on the bill, festival producer Omar Afra quipped: "This is the second moon landing for Houston.”
Day For Night has only been around for two years, yet this sophomore lineup is freaking stacked. Along with Aphex Twin, the bill also includes Odesza, Björk, Kaskade, Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Travis Scott, Run The Jewels, Banks, Little Dragon, Squarepusher and more. On top of all that, the festival was set to include a (now scrapped) hologram of the internet's most beloved gorilla, Harambe.
You can find the full lineup and information on the festival here. Day For Night runs from December 17-18 in Houston, TX.
