Friendship is a funny relationship. There is no contract saying what to do or how long a friend should stick around. That is why this kind of friendship is so valuable. They do not have an obligation to stay or to love you unconditionally, but they do anyway. After the break ups, fights and job cuts, we get to choose the friendships we want to be there for us at the end of the day. And if we're lucky they are anything like an "anyway" friend.
That friend that is selfless. They will go out to dinner with you knowing that they only have a few bucks to their name and do not get paid until Friday, but go anyway. They go because they know you need some advice, need to vent, or simply just a getaway.
That friend that you can confide in. No holding back. No fears. You can tell this person anything, every detail, and they do not judge. You could tell them you murdered your more-than-unfortunate ex, and he or she would stick around anyway to help hide the body.
That friend that is genuine. That friend that will sit around and talk about your day and knows that your jokes aren't funny but will laugh at every one of them anyway.
That friend that you take all of your anger out on from time to time, because you've bottled things up for too long. And although you've lashed out and said things you do not mean, they patiently wait for you to be okay anyway.
That friend that accepts you. They've seen your highs and your lows. They know your mess ups and all of your flaws, but see the best parts of you anyway.
That friend that supports you. Whether this means being your plus one to a wedding or coming to your big event you've been working on. He or she has plenty of things on their plate but comes to support you through things in your life anyway.
That friend that is thoughtful. Yeah, he or she heard you didn't want anything for your birthday this year, but how could they pass up that dress in the window that would look great on you? They know you don't like being dependent, but they always have you in mind anyway.
That friend that is honest with you. You may not always agree on things, but there is no doubt that he or she will ever hide their opinion from you. Whether they agree or disagree with you, they will have your back anyway.
We all know life can get a bit rough sometimes, but it's so much easier to get through with great friends. Finding someone to trust and have at your side no matter what is hard to come by, but once you find this person it's best to never let go.
