Another innocent life taken in the name of gun violence.
This time a popular YouTuber turned season 6 The Voice star, 22 year old Christina Grimmie. Grimmie was shot after her performance at The Plaza LIVE in Orlando, Florida.
After what probably was a great performance along the band Before You Exit, Grimmie was in a back room with the band signing autographs for some fans during a meet-and-greet. By 10 pm, a man approached and shot Grimmie. Once the first shot was hit, Grimmie's brother Marcus managed to tackle the shooter in order to prevent further harm to Christina and her fans.
During the altercation, the shooter shot himself.
Christina was immediately taken to a local Orlando hospital where it was first reported that she was in critical condition, but alas, Grimmie did not survive the gun wounds.
Christina Grimmie was very popular. First starting off as a YouTube star with over 3 million followers where she shared her talents by performing covers of songs such as I Wont Give Up - Jason Mraz and It Will Rain - Bruno Mars and to also share some silly clips.
She further increased her following after competing on season six of NBC's The Voice. Although she had placed third on the show, it was proven that she was not to be stopped and continued on with her career.
Many at first lent their prayers to Christina as news first broke with the hashtag #PrayForChristina yet the tag quickly turned into #RIPChristina when her death was confirmed by her publicist early that Saturday morning.
It is rumored that the suspect was a deranged fan who had traveled to Orlando just to target Grimmie and then planned to return back to his home.
Whatever the motive may have been, it is just sickening that such an awful event took place to begin with. Just the day of the concert, Grimmie posted an Instagram with a lyric from Tori Kelly, "The sun is outtt n I'm feelin okay."
Who would have known that this Instagram post and other social media updates promoting the concert would have been her last updates.
What really is wrong with the world today? It seems like nothing is sacred anymore.
There is too much violence in the world. How many more lives have to be taken before this is considered a serious issue.
Yes, it is mentioned day after day what needs to be done with gun control, but it seems like no one is doing anything. It is all just talk but no action.
Again, this is a trend that needs to be stopped. Whether it be a rising star or even a group of people being targeted (the next day in Orlando, a gay night club was targeted killing over 50 people in a mass murder the day after Grimmie's death), the violence needs to stop.
Pray for peace, pray for love, and pray that you are able to see another day, because as scary as it seems, who knows when it will be your last.
