Annoying couples: We’ve all encountered them. You probably have at least two in mind right now. Whether it’s the couple in the school hallway that is constantly making out in between classes or the one at a restaurant that can’t keep their hands to themselves. In my case, it's the young couple next to me on my three-hour flight back to school. Trust me, I understand being so into someone you just want to be all over them, but you know, there is this thing called common courtesy. There is a time and a place for being intimate and that is definitely not in public. If you chose to be overly touchy, talk in baby voices, or constantly make out, so be it, but don’t force those around you to watch in utter disgust.
Here are five signs you are that annoying couple:
1. You post endless couple selfies.
Yes, we understand you want to document all of the important stages in your relationship, but maybe you should keep most of them to yourself. And no, important stages do not include everyday things like going out to dinner. We don't care that it is your 17th day anniversary. When someone clicks on your Instagram or Facebook profiles, they should not be bombarded with millions of selfies of you and your significant other. You may think you are the cutest couple around, but that doesn't mean everyone also thinks so. Keep your private life, well...private. This means limit yourself to a couple cute photos.
2. You can't go anywhere without each other.
If you include your significant other as being part of your "cannot leave the house without" list, there is a problem. No, you will not die if you don't see your significant other for a couple hours. This is not "Romeo and Juliet." They will survive, you will survive and it will all be OK.
3. You refer to yourself as one.
Just because you do everything together does not make you one identity. I understand Brad and Angelina did it, but that does not make it rational nor appropriate for you to. You may think it will be easier for people to refer to you and your significant other, but in reality the only talk being done is not good. And PLEASE do not get me started on making your own couple hashtag. #adventures-of-shut-the-f-up
4. You are known as the on-again, off-again couple.
We all know the couple you can never keep track of. Today they're together, tomorrow they will be apart and the next day, who even knows? If you continuously break up isn't that a sign? If you have changed your Facebook status more times than Justin Bieber has been on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," you should do less.
5. You are constantly all over each other.
As I said before, I know what it is like to want to show affection for your significant other, but there is a time and place for this. No one wants to see how lovey-dovey you guys are, especially in a place they are being forced to be in. If you are sitting in class next to each other, first of all you shouldn't be, second, there is no reason to be rubbing each others backs or putting your hand on their legs.
If I have learned anything in the past, it is that clingy is not cute. Don't be that couple that everyone dreads to be around.
