I call it the Post-Christmas Slump.
After waiting months for the most magical day of the year to arrive, we are given only 24 hours to enjoy it, until—just as in years past—Christmas ends in the blink of an eye. The classic jingles stop playing on the radio, the lights and trees are taken down and stocked away, and the “Christmas spirit” seems to become a mere distant memory. We are left with eager hearts as we wait for Christmas, yet again.
But what if Christmas never had to end? What if we could celebrate Christmas daily?
Christmas should be celebrated every day of the year. Perhaps not the wreaths and candy canes, but the purpose of Christmas should be here to stay. On December 25, we put into practice the spirit of giving and receiving, spending time with loved ones, and taking a pause from our daily lives to truly live in the moment. So why do we limit this lifestyle to just one day?
You don’t need Christmas as motivation to buy your mom flowers, to watch movies with your siblings until the wee hours of the morning, or to surprise your neighbors with freshly baked cookies. Christmas is not an excuse to do these things, but it is the pure celebration of these acts of selfless giving. We should live our lives as a gift to those around us every day—now that’s what I call a gift that never stops giving. If we lived each day as if it were Christmas—just imagine—every day would be the most wonderful time of the year.
