Dear Chicken Wings,
This letter is to tell you how special you are to me. You have been a staple of consistency through the changes in my life. My tastes, personality, beliefs, friends, wardrobe and many other things have fluctuated over the years, but my love for you has not. I remember the days as a kid, sitting at Applebee's in the large booth with my family-- my dad would order you with buffalo sauce and ranch. And just like I was one of the guys, I would clean you right to the bone. I even ate the celery because it had remnants of sauce on it. Right then, I knew it was real. Since I was a young girl, I knew I would love you for the rest of my life. It is just as John Legend puts it so well, "All of me, loves all you. I love your curves and all your edges, all your perfect imperfections."
When I eat you, wings, something happens to me. Yes, my face gets covered in sauce in the most un-ladylike way, but more than that, my soul also gets covered in sauce. On the worst day, I could eat you and the sun may as well have risen again. You have the unique ability to make me smile. When someone says your name, I drop everything to get to you. You are a special kind of gift from heaven.
I would like to apologize for the times I pretended not to like you, because I was embarrassed at how messy you are. I'm sorry when boys would come around and I would eat you with a fork; that must have been so damaging for you. I know it must have really hurt your feelings when someone would ask if I wanted you and I would lie and say no. I was wrong. I wanted you. I wanted you then and I want you now.
Thankfully, you have been faithful. You have always been unwaivering. Since our reconcilliation I have learned that there is so much more to you than I realized. I remember when I realized that I could get more than just buffalo sauce-- you came in and surprised me by coming with barbeque, and parmesan with garlic, and then for the times I'm feeling classy, you came naked with sauce on the side. You never fail to leave me amazed, like that time that you showed up at school with free samples.
I hope you know that I will always choose you, even when you fall on the floor when I try to eat you. I will pick you up off of the ground and I will eat you anyway. You are that important to me.
To prove how important to me you are, I included some pictures that recap some of our favorite memories together. I only wish I had one with that t-shirt you got me that says "Wing Man," but just know that's engraved in my heart forever.
With more love than you can imagine,
Rachael <33
