To Tyler Oakley,
My favorite phrase I can hear on my worst days is, “Hi! My name is Tyler Oakley!” because I know what the video entails. I can even tell you my favorite video you’ve done ("Tyler Oakley Reacts To Teens React To Tyler Oakley") and my favorite collaborations that you’ve done ("The Disney Challenge ReMatch," "Tyler Oakley Can Sing," and "The GAYEST Video Ever," just to name a few), each for their own reasons. The main reason why I’m a loyal subscriber: You never fail to make my day.
You are an amazing human, and you deserved to have an episode dedicated to you on "Teens React." I think #teaminternet would have rioted if that didn’t happen. Your funky colored hair and hilarious content always win you subscribers. You are a hilarious, funny, caring, and relatable human that everyone loves. Everyone knows that, no matter what kind of day, week, or month you’re going through, Tyler is going to be there to cheer you up.
Your videos are always uplifting, and every video is hilarious in some way. Your cotton-candy hair always makes me laugh, no matter what may have happened that day. Au-guest is my favorite part of the year because of the challenges and collaborations that you do. It’s so much fun to see you do what you love. The way that you’re not afraid to be yourself is so inspiring to so many.
You not only had success in the digital world, but you also are an advocate for the Trevor Project, an organization that works with the LGBTQIA community. Your advocacy work has won you many awards there and in many other places. I mean, you got to meet Obama, Ellen, and Darren Criss because of your work. Score, right?
Tyler, you inspire me to be a better person. You work so tirelessly to make videos for us and to give us merchandise so we can show our #teaminternet pride to the others around the globe. Because of you, I’ve learned how to not be afraid of expressing myself the way I am. You’ve shown me how to advocate for other people as well as myself and do whatever is necessary to be successful myself. Thank you for being you. Your humility despite your success shows me the type of person I need to be. You showed me that, though I may not be in the LGBT community, that doesn’t mean I can’t be an ally. You showed me that working tirelessly for an event to work out, or even homework to get done, means I may not get an A, but that I put in my best effort and that that is good enough. The conventional way may not always be the best way, and sometimes the alternative way is the more fun way of going about things. Queen Jackie is a lovely woman and she deserves as much recognition as she gets in your videos and in your fanbase.
I can’t wait to read your book and watch "Snervous"! It’s going to be amazing if it’s anything like you. I’ll see you in your next video and maybe you’ll make it back to Boston again?
Thank you again,
Jen Jiang
