I know how cliche this may be, we all know those Marilyn Monroe quotes that every girl loves to write in pretty handwriting or make their Instagram caption on a selfie after a terrible break up. But did you ever stop and think that maybe there was something behind this woman and her legendary quotes? I happen to think they're quite motivational and I would like to share some of my favorites with you.
1. "I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I'm out of control, and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
We all know this one. But how true is that? If the person you want to be with only likes the good things about you and doesn't take the time to get to know you and see you for everything, flaws and all, then they certainly don't deserve you. Stand up for what you deserve, ladies! Find someone who wants to love you for all your parts because not every day is a good day.2. "I am trying to find myself. Sometimes that's not easy."
Boy, isn't that the truth! This world is huge and not everyone you meet is full of rainbows and butterflies. There are so many temptations and paths to take and you want to try so hard to please everyone around you, but also do what you want. That's the hardest thing to deal with in life in my opinion. Just take a deep breath, pray for guidance, and the rest will come to you. Enjoy the things that make you happy and your true friends will support your decisions no matter what. Don't expect life to be easy because it's not and it never will be.3. "A man has a tendency to accept you the way you are, while most women immediately start to pick flaws and want to change you."
Now I'm sure the first part of this quote was probably true back when Marilyn was alive, but the other half is something that has never changed. We as women should practice building each other up. I'm as guilty of this as the next girl. But we are this generation and we are here now, it's time to be positive and support each other. Tell each other how pretty we all look. It's so hard not to feel envious of someone thinner than you, curvier than you, smarter than you... that causes negativity and hatred within our own kind. It's just so important to be nice. I know that's practically impossible these days.4. "I'm very definitely a woman and I enjoy it."
Amen sister! Love yourself and love what you know you can bring to the table. We get to create life, we get to wear much cuter clothes than men, we get to have the luxuries of sassy heels and contour. How fun, right?5. "I have feelings, too. I am still human. All I want is to be loved, for myself and for my talent."
Something else I feel we are all too familiar with. The feelings of being ignored, unappreciated, or unwanted are traumatizing and unforgettable. We just want someone to want to spend time with us and hear about our days; girl friends or boyfriends. As people, we want to know that others appreciate our hard work and we're not just imagining our strengths. You get out what you put in in this world. Give love and you'll receive it!
Thank you Marilyn Monroe for being much more than a pretty face, but a woman who understood all other women before we knew it ourselves. Rest in peace.
