Dear me a year from now,
365 days. 12 months. 52 whole weeks.

Crazy how things change huh? I know you never expected your life to take the twist and turns that it did in the past year. But that's life right? A year ago you never would have imagined that you would meet all of the people that you did, did you? I bet you never fathomed that you would see all of the things you have; traveling and exploring areas you never imagined yourself going to. It's crazy how the spontaneous decisions you chose to make would take you down so many unexpected roads and open so many doors.

It would be a lie if you said you left last year unscathed because with the good always comes the bad. But before you get caught up in the negativity (which is easy to do), just keep in mind that not everything can be perfect but that's okay! The bad helps us to appreciate the good that much more. So keep that in the back of your head when sometime in the next 365 days, 12 months, 52 weeks something doesn't go your way. Because trust me when I say it's going to happen. That's life and life is inevitable.

Anytime the negativity starts to become too much for you, maybe a relationship goes wrong or you begin to stress out about school (this shouldn't come as a surprise at this point), remember you from a year ago. Remember all of the friendships you gained in replace of the ones you lost. Remember all of the A's you got that cancelled out the C's. Look at your relationships whether it be with a significant other, friends co-workers etc. Keep in perspective everything that you endured last year because you survived it then and you'll survive it now.

So to the me a year from now, due to past experiences, all I can say about the year that lies before you is that you're in for a surprise. You're gonna experience good times, great times and some bad times too. But don't forget you have a great deal of people around you to support you and help you. You have people that will hold your hand through the dark times and people to laugh and dance with you through the good ones too. Know how fortunate you are to have the people you do around you. Whatever you do, don't take them for granted. And finally, as you know, time flies. So in this next year make sure you enjoy every second of it. Take advantage of all of the opportunities you are presented with. Take risks and chances and be fearless.

Best of luck to me in a year from now. 'Till then.
Love, present me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
