There are many reasons that people fall into the teaching profession. Some have really bad teachers and therefore want to be better teachers for others. Some just kind of fall into it. And finally others have really wonderful teachers and want to share the experience. This was my persona experience with teachers that I had over the years. Don't get my wrong, I had my fair share of bad teachers that made me want to pull my hair out, but overall I was truly blessed to have teachers who inspired something within me to want to share it.
The first teacher to do this for me was my middle school history teacher. He knew his stuff backwards and forwards and lectured as if he was telling a story as opposed to reciting facts about things that had already happened. I was so fascinated by everything I learned that year and what surprised me more, as an average student at the time, I wanted to learn more. That was the first spark the ignited the fire to want to share that with others.
Then in high school, I had another teacher who had a similar zeal for her subject. She taught it with passion and made it exciting. I wasn't even really interested in english or the books we were reading, but I was completely sucked in by every new book or section we studied. I was excited to get feed back on things, and for someone who was not initially interested in any literary things, I was sparked to read more in the my free time and contributed to my current day book worm status.
Finally, in college, I had a number of professors who solidified me wanting to teach and thats when I recognized the common theme of all of these educators. They not only loved what they did, but that loved what they taught. I wanted to do the same. So after realizing I was a complete nerd over history and historical facts, I wanted to bring the same passion to other students. So a huge thank you to those teachers that sparked a flame. I can only hope to do the same one day.
