Dear Sister and Soul Mate,
I miss you so much each and every day I am away at college. The three-hour convos over FaceTime or frequent calls and texts just don’t always cut it! Of course my friends at college are amazing, but they just don’t compare to the strong bond of a sister. Growing up with you was the biggest blessing and having to move away was one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. It is so difficult not to be with you 24/7 and resorting to watching your life over Snap Chat stories and Instagram posts to get the latest details. Having a sister is something that we take for granted more times than not and I want you to know how much love I have for you and how much you mean to me because my love for you is indescribable.
You made my childhood so memorable. I can’t imagine sharing a home with any other sister than you. There is nobody else I would have wanted to go through my awkward stages with. You know more about me than anyone else, good and bad. No matter how intense our screaming fights would get, I usually ended up needing your advice for something, so the fight would have to end. You were my go-to for hanging out when I was lonely on a Friday night or if I just needed someone to go the mall and get Taco Bell with. I would never get bored if you were around, even if we were just chatting about life. Thank you for being the best sister I could ask for. You are truly my best friend and I love everything about you.
You make me laugh harder than anyone else. The jokes we share are endless. You always know just how to cheer me up. Even when I’m away from you at college, if we're talking over the phone, I am guaranteed a good laugh. Your constant joy and happiness makes me feel better even when I am feeling down in the dumps. You know all of the right things to say. Sharing stories and catching up because we are apart is so special. I am so glad to be able to laugh at your fails because let's face it, even if you don’t think so, they are always hilarious. Besides, you laugh at mine too! Sometimes it’s frustrating because even when I’m supposed to be angry with you for wearing one of my shirts without asking, it's also impossible not to be happy around you. At the end of the day, we share the same joyous spirit and being able to share my laughs with you is the best.
If I ever needed something I could always rely on you. Whether it was some extra cash when I didn’t have enough for something I wanted at the mall, or it was a secret I needed you to keep from our parents, I could always count on you. You can keep some of my deepest secrets and I knew you always had my back, even if it meant you had to sacrifice something...like getting in trouble with mom or dad. Whether it comes to my hair, makeup or clothes, your opinion ALWAYS matters! You can be brutally honest, and even though I may get upset at the time, I admit, I definitely needed it. I trust your opinion more than anyone else, and I know you value mine too. We can count on each other for everything, and that is something that I can always rely on. You are always on my list of “go-to’s” when I need to get something off of my chest, because I know whether you judge me or not about it, in the end you will take my side as I would do for you.
No matter how many miles we put between us, you’ll always be my little sister. No matter what is going on while I am away at school, whether it be boy drama or your latest achievements, just know that I am only one call away. Whether it be day or night, I would drop everything if you needed me or if you just needed someone to talk to, and I know you would do the same for me also. Nothing makes me happier than to hear from you and know how you are doing. Distance doesn’t matter when the bond we have is so strong. I’ll always be your number one supporter in times of good or bad. You are like my best friend that I can trust to always be there for me, even if we get so upset with each other that we don’t talk for days at a time. We will always be family and that is all that matters.
Living apart from you is brutal, but just know that I am so proud of you, and I am confident you are putting all of my older sister advice to use. I know you are doing just fine. I feel sorry for the people who don’t have a sister because you missed out on one of the best friends you could ever have! I hope you know how much you mean to me, because I can’t even put it into words. Be good while I’m away and can’t keep my eye on you!
Love,
Your big sister.
