Immigration has always been a popular topic in the U.S. Being a child of immigrant parents, I have strong opinions about the recent immigration laws and travel ban that the current president has declared. This is an open letter about these topics to the President.

Dear Mr. President,

First off, I'd like to ask; How does this work, Mr. President? Your wife AND your mother are immigrants. How do you think they feel about your hatred against immigrants? I don't know about them but I know I am constantly scared about losing my family for no reason other than the fact that you don’t like them. And what about your workers. You have plenty of immigrant workers in your many buildings. What are you going to do when you kick them all out of the country and you have no more workers? Then there's the wall. This wall is going to be shown as a symbol of hate throughout the years. Because of this wall, other countries are never going to trust us or want anything to do with us. What happens when everything is switched around and WE are the ones that need help from other countries? Do you think they're gonna want to help us?

Second, what are you expecting will happen with this travel ban? By banning muslim refugees, even green card holding muslims who just happened to travel out of the country, is that going to all of a sudden stop terrorism? By that argument, we should ban any white American, who has performed a terrorist attack, from our country as well. And what will you do when the next terrorist is French or British? Are you just going to ban them too? Adding them to the list of countries that will hate us.

These measures of force will never fix the problem. It will only accentuate the hate towards us. Are you willing to put your country through that, all because of your foolish mistakes? You have to be human and smart, Mr. President. That doesn't mean we have to tolerate killings and terrorism. It means we have to handle the situation carefully and more thought out. Think of the consequences your actions will make. Think of the families you're trying to tear apart. What if the roles were switched and they are trying to tear your family apart? You wouldn’t like it done to you, so why would you do it to them? It’s time to be smart Mr. President.
