An open letter to the person I call my second mom

Dear "Second Mom",

Happy Birthday!! I have decided to do this because I can't express how thankful I am for you. I truly don't even think this can even express it, but I am still going to try to show you who you are in my eyes.

An open letter to the person I call my second mom

THANK YOU FOR:

TELLING ME THE TRUTH

No matter how much it hurts or I don't wanna hear it, you never fail to tell me just the way it is. Whether you're telling me I'm fat and need to eat healthier to get abs, or crushing my sugar cookies, or making me take some medicine to feel better, or that I am getting sassy or need to be nicer lol, or that I need to fix my hair cut, I know I can always count on you to be the first to tell me.

    LOOKING OUT FOR ME:

You are always looking out for me. When I was in Alabama you would always call and make sure I was okay. If I'm sick and won't take anything you will be the one to make me take something. Or if I'm about to do something stupid you are the one to tell me and stop me. If I am driving home late or tired you will make sure I text you when I get back so you know I'm safe, or when we leave the gym at night you will make sure I am in my car before you leave. when I found out I was an alternate you were the first to come In, hug me, and make sure I was ok. When I am upset you will know without me even having to say anything and know exactly how to cheer me up.

    TEACHING ME

You are the best mentor. You are always taking me to your choreo sessions, wanting to help me learn to be better and more like you. It means the world when you tell me you want to "mold" and train me to be the next you, because I always look up to you and want to be just like you. I not only look up to you in cheerleading, but as a sister in christ. You are always listening to worship music with me, and reminding me (especially in Alabama) to find joy in all my circumstances. I hope and pray I can be half the woman you are one day.

    SUPPORTING ME

You always show up whenever I need you. You are there for all my big events, birthdays, grad party, my baptism, tumbling, watching me compete (sometimes through FaceTime) and will one day be in my wedding lol. You give me the support and confidence I need to get things done, even when sometimes it seems impossible.

    OUR LONG TALKS

Whether it be a simple text OR random FaceTime calls OR riding in your car OR laying at your pool OR sitting at the gym talking for hours, there is no other person I would want to do it with. Although sometimes I know you get tired of me talking, because I do it a lot lol, but I cherish every conservation that I get to have with you.

    GIVING ME ADVICE

Your advice is literally the best. I can (and do) go to you for anything and everything. You always know what to say and how to say it, even if it is simply telling me the situation isn't the end of the world. If (on the rare occasion) people ever do ask me for advice, when I give it to them I realize that I am saying the same things you have said to me. I come to you for every decision I need to make, from little things like picking outfits, to picking colleges or life decisions because you literally know me better than myself, and usually know what I'm going to say before I even say it lol.

    YOUR HUGS

Your hugs? Yep, that's right. I am thankful for your hugs. I appreciate them a lot more these days after being in Alabama and knowing what its like to only have one every other month, especially since you would literally time me and give me like less than 10 sec lol. But now I try and get one everyday, because they are so comforting. HOME SWEET HOME!

    LETTING ME CRY

I guess I have to admit that I cry now. Seriously though, the amount of times I have texted or called you upset has been ridiculous, especially this past year. But you always pick my pieces up off the floor and put me back together, even though most the time you are just telling me to stop crying lol. You have literally seen me at my very worst (and best) and still never left my side.

    YOUR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Although I have such a loving family, it is nice to have someone other than them. You never go a day without showing me how much you love me, even if it sometimes comes in the form of fighting or making fun of me lol, or if its saying love you before you leave. Even if you are having a bad day you still give off such a positive attitude. If there is one thing I get from you in the end, I hope it is that.

    LETTING ME INTO YOUR FAMILY

You (sometimes) welcome me into your house AND not only did you welcome me into your house (even though you kick me out after a while), but you welcomed me into your family. You treat me as one of your own. I love you and your family like my own.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, THANKS FOR BEING MY SECOND MOM

I really cannot explain how much I love and adore you. You make my life ten times easier. Without you I don't know where I would be today. I don't think I can ever thank you enough. Life isn't easy sometimes and I am thankful I have you to turn to. You continue to amaze me every day. You are the most positive, loving, strong, and selfless, person I have ever met. Who would have thought that me deciding to try helping blast for a season would lead to this? Words cannot explain the amount of things you have done for me. I can't wait to add more memories with you and I know that you will be here with me until the very end (bc I decided your not allowed to die without me, we are going together lol). Thank you again. You will always be my person, my best friend (even when you are 80 haha)! I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK RACHEL, TIMES NFINITY! Happy Birthday Love, your other kid, xoxo <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
