Dear girls,
Remember the days when we thought being the "most popular" girl was important. Thank you for making me realize it wasn't. In high school, we all thought drama was the thing that made our world go round. We thought we had insights to secrets people didn't, we enjoyed talking about people behind there backs, and thought we were the "coolest" girls.
Then one day I was on the other side.
I was the girl people talked bad about, started rumors about, and the girl who had fake friends. Some day everyone is going to have that wake up call whether it is at 16 or 30. You're going to realize those people you called your friends aren't your friends, they were just acquaintances. To the girls who were my acquaintances, thank you for not being by my side when I needed you the most, thank you for teaching me I never want anyone around me to feel left out, and I will not judge anyone or start rumors until I know their story. Thanks to you guys, I learned I love my guy friends. I was able to enjoy the last two years of high school with them, and make memories I never would have gotten the chance to if I stayed wrapped up in the drama. I now have friends I expect to stay in touch with and make time for when I come home.
Making girlfriends in high school was a struggle for me. During college, I made the crazy decision to rush a sorority. In case you didn't know, sororities have lots of girls. I was blown away at the fact that I enjoyed it, the girls were honest, real, and actually cared about each other.
I am in Tri Sigma, and my big Sara, helped me fall in love with it. My big and I live five minutes away from each other back in our hometown, and we never met a day in our life until we moved four hours away to college. Crazy how such a small world it is! I have met so many girls and have developed so many new friendships in Tri Sigma. I never thought me of all of people I would have a lot of girl friends in college. When you go through recruitment you think talking to girls for three hours a day would be exhausting or you would run out of topics to talk about, but you don't. You don't because the girls are not being fake, they are genuinely kind, caring, open minded, and don't over talk you so they can hear your story. All girls have their differences, these girls I consider to be the sisters I've never had. I can even call Carrie Underwood my sorority sister, she was a Tri Sigma! (If only I could have gotten to go through recruitment with her).
I now have a second family I can call my sorority sisters.
They say high school is the best time of your life, I think college is. It is where you find your true friends, and get the opportunity to do what you want with your life.
Now it's time to thank the people who were always there for me, you know who you are. You were there for me at my worst and on my best days. You brought me chocolate when I needed it the most, you visited me with balloons and get well soon baskets, you stood up with me against the drama, you took me out and even with my brace would pick me up and put me in the backseat of the truck sprawled out, carried me down the halls at school so I wouldn't have to crutch 24/7, you came and watched me play soccer even when you knew I shouldn't have been playing, you were the first to run down on the field when I got hurt. The list is never-ending.
I will never forget what you guys have done for me and remember I will always be here for you. Thank you for making me a better person and finding myself.
Yours truly,
Sydney
