An Open Letter To The Friends I Don't Talk To Enough

Always together and never apart; maybe in distance but never in heart.

An Open Letter To The Friends I Don't Talk To Enough

Dear friend,

How are you? I've seen pictures all over Facebook and Instagram and let me tell you, you look great! College is treating you swell.

We haven't spoken in a while. It may be a few months or a few weeks, but it still feels like an eternity. It's crazy how life has gotten in the way and we just don't have the time to text, or call, each other as often. This doesn't mean that we're no longer friends because we definitely still are. I don't feel a disconnect, or an empty place in my heart because you're still a part of my life. I know that when school ceases to take up our lives we'll be back where we left off.

Summer is just around the corner and I know for sure that the two of us will be blasting music as we drive with the windows down. We'll spend hours upon hours on the beach, you getting tan while I burn. I'm aware that I probably won't be able to shake you and we're going to spend a lot of time cooling off in our air conditioned houses watching Netflix. That reminds me, we should definitely watch season 3 of Orange is the New Black together. I can't wait to make up for all the months we've been apart for a summer full of phenomenal memories.

You see, what I love about our friendship is that we understand. There's no hard feelings when I don't call, or you forget to answer your texts. We know that as college kids sometimes life gets too crazy. I love that when we finally do schedule a day to see each other it's like we haven't been apart for a minute. Everything is natural. All our inside jokes are still intact. We always pick up right where we left off.

I see what you're doing in your college life and I'm so proud. Even if I haven't said it to you yet, I want you to know that I am always cheering you on from the sidelines. We may be hundreds of miles apart, but I'm always right by your side. If things get hard, or you're missing me, I will always pick up your phone call when I see your name light up on my screen.

Sincerely,

The one who will always be here for you.

P.S. Next time I see you, I'm coming at you like this...

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
