An Open Letter To My Guy Best Friend

They always say that guys “friend zone” women. But in reality, being “friend zoned” can lead to an amazing best friend relationship. Platonic relationships between both males and females are quite rare to find. But I wanted to say thank you for all that you do.

Dear Guy Best friend,

Thank you for letting me be 100 percent myself around you. Thank you for listening to me and thank you for always being there for me no matter what.

Perspective

You have allowed me to enter the male brain, for which I am forever grateful. I have gained insight, new knowledge, and new understandings. You welcomed me into your one-man wolf pack, and it’s because of you that I still stay hopeful that there are still good guys out there.

Bros for Life

When I’m with you, you bring out my inner bro, and I love it. We can joke around and be ourselves and be completely comfortable around each other. We can go from talking about sports to that really hot chick that just walked passed us. I don’t have to say excuse me when I burp, and I certainly don’t need an excuse to be ladylike around you.

Tough Love

You tell it how it is, and I need that. You are always honest with me, which is important. You don’t hold back, even if it may hurt my feelings, you know you’re only doing it to help a girl out. If a guy isn’t into me, you’ll tell me. If a guy isn’t good for me, you’ll tell me right away so I don’t waste months or even years being unhappy in a relationship that was a waste of my time.

You’re There for Me

You always accept me with open arms after a bad breakup, bad day, or even if I’m just excited to see you. You always text me back, return my phone calls, drop everything to come spend time with me if I need it and will go out of your way to make sure that I’m having a good day. You always have my back, and I always have yours, no matter what.

Judge Free Zone

I could pick my nose, burp like a man, have no makeup on, sweatpants, a messy bun, look like a slob, cry like a baby, pick my wedgie, fix my bra, vent to you like no tomorrow, laugh like a hyena, and you won’t judge me. At all. You accept me as the person that I am and always encourage me to become a better person.

Comfort

We can snuggle, hold hands, hug, or send kisses to one another, and it’s not weird. Thank you for giving me comfort without being creepy. Thank you for genuinely caring and not trying to get into my pants. Thank you for understanding that at my lowest moments in life you don’t try to take advantage of me, but instead you only try to make me feel better.

Love

The love we have for each other is indescribable. We would both do anything for one another no matter what. We have a strong, deep connection with one another. You always tell me how much I mean to you, how much you care for me, how much you love me, how you’re always there for me, and no matter what, you always want the best for me.

So thank you for being you, for being there for me when I need you most, and when I just need to see your face to know that everything is going to be OK. Thank you for being a big part of my life—without you in it, my life would not have been the same.

Love always,

Your girl best friend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
