An Open Letter To Summer '16
Estela Dominguez

You started out as a summer to find myself and grow from my scars. A time to learn the true value of myself, those in my life and finding who I truly was. Now that the summer has ended looking back Summer ’16 definitely did all I wanted and more.

So to start I want to say cheers to my friends. From the late nights introducing old friends from high school to Hyde Park and the clubs of Tampa to the mornings being roasted by the sun on the beautiful beaches of Florida I missed you guys. I honestly took my friendships for granted and I distanced myself a lot and I refused to do that again. This summer I learned so much about the importance of friendship and valuable love. I also thank you guys for all the memories, I truly couldn’t have asked for more amazing times and I’ll remember them everyday and not just because a lot of them are pictures hung up on my basic garland of pictures of dorm décor.

To Pokemon Go I would like to say, thank you. You’ve given me more than motivation this summer to explore and not just sit around the house during the boring days at home. Also I would like to say congratulations on not only doing a lot to help kids fight obesity but to helping social shy children and teens make friends. I truly think that this summer I’ve made a good number of friends just walking around staring at my computer screen chasing down Magikarps to make Gyrados or Eevees to evolve them than I have at parties in college or at social events with my friends. So to the Pokemon people congratulations this should alone make you realize how great of an accomplishment you’ve made with your app.

Biggie smells I’m going to shout you out real quick. I’m so glad I could attend your 21st birthday, I truly think that making your gifts and being drenched in more glitter than I would enjoy was probably one of my favorite parts of this summer. Also the amount of laughs that came out of your best friend and I coming up with your gifts and sign have never been so rewarding because I knew I was making your day. Lastly to you I want to say I’ve missed you. All summer I keep thinking how excited I am to spend this last year with you and how I cant wait to see you and freak you out by petting your hair and giving you hugs. I love ya biggie and if this summer has taught me anything about you it’s that you mean more to me than I can imagine.

To my college best friends, summer ’16 has consisted of a few of you so I would like to shout you out. Alejandra thanks for all the memories and driving the hour and a half that you drove to see me sometimes. I honestly wouldn’t have wanted to road trip with anyone else and forced anyone else to go to the beach with me. My group chat thanks for keeping the texting real and the amusement real, I couldn’t have laughed anymore. Katie, I’ve missed you and thanks for being here when you have and all the hilarious texts and face times.

Theta Phi Alpha, I couldn’t have been more grateful to convention because it taught me so much and it brought me so close to my letters.

Lastly, Panama. I already miss you and everyone so much, I think about it everyday and I can’t wait to go back. I thank you though for all the fun adventures and for the amazing go pro opportunities you’ve given me hahah.

Well that’s my quick version of it all so thanks to all my peeps and thanks Summer ’16 for giving me amazing memories and the summer of my life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
