An Open Letter To Santa

What I want for Christmas this year!

An Open Letter To Santa

Dear Santa,

There are only so many days left 'till Christmas this year. The end of the year is arriving and snow has yet to fall in New York. Which, I’m totally okay with. It doesn’t need to snow till Christmas Eve. Well, anyways… I’m sure you have millions of letters from little ones to read through. But, I was hoping this open letter I wrote to you would find you somehow. I mean, you are Santa you will find a way!

For Christmas this year I would like to ask for a couple of things. I’m not asking for anything that you could actually put under my Christmas Tree or even in my stocking. But, I’m asking for things you cannot have your elves wrap up for you. And I know Santa you have probably already gone over your list more than twice. And I know I am probably put under the “Naughty List” for multiple reasons, but give me a break. We can’t all be nice all the time, though I always strive to be.

The first thing I would like to ask you for is World Peace. I know how cliché that must sound. But, seriously, it is about time our world is at peace. You know, that way you could have a longer “Nice List.” When you unroll your “Naughty List” paper it must go on for miles, unless you got a laptop and organized yourself a little better. Wouldn’t you rather do that with the “Nice List?” I know I would!

The second thing would be for my sister to find her one true love. That’s all she ever wanted in life. She has everything else she needs – family, a job, a dream and me, but a true love would be great too! I want her to be happy more than anything in the world. And I want her to share her happiness with the person she loves for the rest of her life.

The third thing would be for my three brothers. I want their careers to lift off! I want all their dreams to come true. And I don’t want their dreams to come true because I’m their sister, but because they have worked hard. They have worked harder than most people I know when it comes to their dreams. That inspires me to keep writing because that’s mine (I have more, but it’s the main one)! I also want them to find pure and utter happiness in the world! That is the most important thing to me.

The fourth thing would be for my parents. For Christmas this year, I want my parents to feel relaxed. I want them to feel nothing, but joy and love with one another. And obviously with us too! My parents do everything they can for us and I hope to do the same for them. To make them proud is always a huge goal of mine because in the end (like most parents) they will be happy!

The fifth and last thing I would like for Christmas this year is something you could possibly put under my tree. I would like a letter from you or Father Time. I want to know what my future will hold for me. Usually, I’m all right with waiting, but graduation is arriving in a few short months and I’m starting to freak out!

I hope this isn’t too much to ask for. And I hope you see that although I might be on that “Naughty List” of yours that I am actually a very genuine and nice human being as well as so many others on that list! Just give us a chance Santa. Don’t put coal under my tree!

Signed,

Katherine

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
