An Open Letter To The Protesters

You have been heard, now please listen.

An Open Letter To The Protesters
Stephanie B. Parsons

To all the protesters (you know, the violent ones wreaking havoc in various communities across the United States):

We hear you. The public hears and understands that you do not like the results of this election. We hear the outcries of "Not my President." We have read about the fires you started, the police cars damaged, and the number of people wounded. We hear you, but will you listen just for a moment? There is something you need to know: Your views matter. Whether you voted for Hillary or an independent party, or maybe you didn't vote at all, and you are against President Trump, his values, and his moral platform, you matter. Your voice matters. You have a right to be heard. Another necessary point to be made: You are going about this the wrong way. Damaging cities, hurting people, screaming profanity - none of it will help you get your point across. The United States does not deserve to be destroyed and broken down by chaos and recklessness. Now that you know these two important things, I encourage to use your voice in a way that works. How did this election become so publicized? It did so by the use of media. Social and news media are your tools to getting your points across. Articles, videos, and petitions are your weapons of change. In order to inspire change, you have to speak the language of those doing the changing. Last I checked, the government doesn't communicate through anarchy. You next should choose what you would like to be changed.

Donald Trump is our President, and there is no changing that. Maybe you disagree with the plans he spoke of putting in motion during the election, like the proposed South-border wall. But I urge you: do not argue and fight what does not exist. This wall is not real yet. President Trump will have to undergo processes before any plans can be put into motion. He announced these plans as a candidate, but let's see what he does as a President. When he stands as our President (and if you are a citizen of the United States of America, he is your president) and announces that he is building a wall, then you have something to fight, a reason to inspire change. That is when you rally the troops and make your point without violence and destruction. Do not waste your time making noise when you could spend it being heard.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
