Dear Unresponsive Emailer,
You probably "won't see this" or will "forget to open it," but I figured I'd try you anyway. I took time out of my day to send you an email. Whether or not it was extremely important, I don't know, but that shouldn't matter. What matters is you have an email from me in your inbox that you haven't responded to.
Why you haven't responded to my email, I cannot say. But I can almost guarantee you don't have a good reason. Sure, maybe your email account mysteriously disappeared and you can no longer access it. I'd understand that. Maybe.
No matter the reason, I decided to email you. Maybe you listed it as a good way to contact you, but, I am now realizing, it isn't the best way. So, why, I ask, did you list it as an appropriate way to contact you? Maybe you want to seem accessible by listing an email address. But, are you really accessible if you don't respond to attempts to contact you? Nah. You're not.
Your inability to respond to emails is especially frustrating if I sent something important. For example, I recently emailed a landlord whose house I was looking to rent for next school year. The first email I sent was responded to quickly, which I of course appreciated. I responded promptly, because I am a decent human being, but for a week and a half, I received no response to a fairly important email. I called the landlord who admitted he "forgot to email me back," but said he did see them. So I have that going for me, which is nice. I ended up not being able to rent the house because the landlord showed the house to another tenant and decided to rent to them instead. Had he responded to my emails, I might have a house to live in next year, but he didn't and I don't.
I realize email is being phased out by texting, but it is still a valid way to contact people. So, if you're not going to respond to an email, then why even have an account in the first place? Just delete it. It's like if I had a phone, but never answered calls on it. Or having a car, but leaving it in the driveway all day, just to look at it and taking the bus everywhere instead of driving the car. There's absolutely no point.
So, I beg of you. Be responsive with your emails. Don't leave people hanging. But if you decide you can't handle the responsibility of an email account, there's always the phone.
Sincerely,
The sender of your unread email
