An Open Letter To My Sorority Family Line
Cailin Austin

Dear Fam,

As the time approaches quickly for me to take on a little (woah), it reminds me of the time not too long ago when I became the littlest member of your family line. Very soon, we will meet the newest members of our chapter and welcome a new member to our family and I will no longer be the baby of our family line. But that's OK, because I know that you guys will be just as welcoming to my little as you were to me.

Over the past few semesters that I have been able to call you guys my family, that is what you guys have truly become. Even though the concept of having a sorority family line was a little silly to me at first, there is no other word to truly describe it other than a family. You guys have taught me the most important parts of our chapter, introduced me to all of our sisters, and spoiled me with all of your old letters and clothes. I know everyone probably thinks the same way about their own family, but I really got lucky with you guys.

Thank you for all of the times that you have been there for me through finals and hard classes, for making me feel comfortable as a new member, but also laughing at me when I made dumb mistakes, thank you for always being there to hang out or get lunch when no one else was free and not being upset when I was too busy to do the same for you sometimes. I only hope that I can be as good to my little as you all were to me.

Even though we're all a little different from each other, you have always accepted the parts about me that were different from you. You guys always match my levels of crazy and silly and make me laugh to no end. You encourage me to attend as many events as possible and make the most of our time in our sorority together.

You guys were the reasons I wanted to join our chapter and better yet, become your little. Even though you all are not perfect, you encourage me to be a better version of myself. And that's the whole point of joining a sorority, right? You all are truly role models to me and inspire me to try new things and break out of my comfort level but would never pressure me to do something I didn't want to do. Every one of you sets such high goals for yourself, which encourages me to do the same. I always brag about you guys and the accomplishments each of you have made, because I'm proud to call you my family.

And to just my big, thank you for picking me to be a part of our crazy fam and for being the best big I could've asked for. When I think about it, if it wasn't for you, my experience with our chapter wouldn't be what it is if I hadn't met you. You do so much for me.

When I'm with you guys, I know for a fact that I made the best decision possibly by choosing our chapter and of course, choosing you guys as my family.

As cheesy as it might be, you don't get to choose your real family, but choosing you guys was the next best thing. Thank you for all that you have done for me while I was the littlest member of your family, I can't wait to share with my future little how great you guys are!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
