An Open Letter To My 'Shore' Friends

Who doesn't love spending three months with your friends on the beach all day, every day?

An Open Letter To My 'Shore' Friends

This is an open letter to all of my "shore" friends.

We may not spend the entire year together, but in the three months that we do, we make up for all the lost time.

When I was younger, my parents decided to buy a beach house in a small, private beach. Little did I know that this beach would be home to some of my very best friends today. People always ask if it bothers me that I do not get to spend the summer with my friends at home, and while I do miss them, I get to see my amazing shore friends.

Not everyone understands why having friends at a beach house is so amazing. Our nights are spent aimlessly walking the beaches, going to get ice cream from our favorite ice cream parlors, or even just sitting outside of our houses talking for hours. The reason it is so amazing is because everyone is walking distance from each other, so you can just decide you want to hang out and walk to their house in 2 minutes. Not to mention, we also get to sit on the beach together all day and get tan while hanging out.

Never in a million years did I think having my shore friends would be as important as it is to me today. I have met some of the greatest people at my beach house, and we stay in contact all year even though we all do not necessarily live near each other. There is nothing like stepping foot on the beach in June and getting to see everyone you missed, and all the familiar faces. Everyone is close down at the shore, and everyone knows everyone.

Another perk about my shore friends, is that I even get to work with some of them. So, as if spending all day on the beach together was not enough, we also get to be coworkers later that night. So days at the beach are usually spent recapping work drama and incidents from the night before, and then going right back to work the next night. I also love getting to visit all my friends at there job, whether it be at an ice cream shop, or the badge booth, or the local condominium pool lifeguarding.

All in all, I would not trade these amazing friends for the world! For most people who have a beach house, or a vacation house, you can understand how amazing it is to have friends there. Spending all three months on the beach every day with amazing people, and nights spent getting ice cream and playing cards outside are irreplaceable in my eyes.

I am so grateful to have met everyone I did at my shore house, and cannot wait to be back in about 180 days!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
