An Open Letter To My RA And Best Friend

To my beautiful RA Kelly,

Where do I even begin?... I guess I will start with: THANK YOU!

Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being so kind, and caring; it means the absolute world to me. I truly appreciate everything you have done for me this year. I am so proud of everything you have accomplished: getting into graduate school, and standing up for women's rights everywhere. Thank you for encouraging me to go the counseling center to get the support I truly needed.

Thank you for reminding me about the importance of reaching out for help. I always tend to shy away from asking for help. Thank you for showing me the importance of my health, and always saying, "I'm so proud of you!!!" and giving me the biggest hug ever. Kelly, the outpouring of love and support I have received from you is so heart warming and makes me feel all giddy inside!

I'm so happy to be on your floor, and couldn't imagine anyone else as my RA and best friend. I love you to the moon and back. You are always my voice of reason-- giving me the best advice or telling me to stop doing my homework at 1 am and get to bed!! I may be stubborn, but I always listen whenever you tell me to do something. I will always love you more, even when we fight about it over text for 20 minutes straight. You never fail to make me smile, and that's such an amazing trait to have.

Thank you for always being my shoulder to lean on whenever I am having a bad day, and letting me talk about my feelings for hours while you hug me and remind me that everything is going to be ok. Thank you for making me apart of your life, always keeping me in the loop of all your crazy stories and activities (and gossip, of course). I've never had someone who I could trust and talk about anything with. You're the sweetest person in the entire world, and make me so happy whenever I see you. You dazzle anyone you come in contact with with your beautiful personality and passion for life.

Kelly, you always have a way of making me feel so much better about myself. You always put a smile on my face every time I see you, it's contagious. I can't stress enough how much you mean to me. I seriously don't know what I would do without you. I cannot imagine what my Loyola experience would be with a different RA. I have so much fun on our lunch dates, where we spend over 2 hours venting about our problems with each other, while enjoying smoothies and good company.

Our conversations together are none like any others. They are always awesome and make me feel on top of the world and smiley on the inside. I couldn't be more excited that you are off to graduate school next year, but I am going to miss you. As I always say, I may have to kidnap you and hide you in my room next year and refuse to let you leave!! Kelly, I love you more than I could possibly put into words, thank you for being my everything, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for the two of us!

From your first floor first-year,

Kaitlyn Zwerling

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
