An Open Letter to My Past Bullies

As far back as I can remember I have been bullied.I’ve always been labeled as fat, annoying, weird, etc. When you grow up constantly being put down it really puts a damper on your self-esteem. I’ll never forget all of the days I used to come home from school crying to my mom or when I would fake sick to the school nurse just so I could get sent home.I grew up thinking that there was so much wrong with me. I grew scared of going out to places with my friends because I didn’t want to risk having my spirits crushed just from wanting to have fun. I wouldn’t go to the beach because I didn’t want people from school to see me in a bathing suit and make jokes. I got nervous to go to parties or social gatherings with my friends because I didn’t think I would be welcome. I lived all of my high school years in fear of being judged and laughed at. Looking back now though all I can really say to all of the bullies throughout my life is thank you. Thank you for breaking me down so low that I didn’t know myself or self-worth. All I ever thought of myself as is the words that were implanted in my brain. Things are different now, though. I used to be completely insecure. Although, I still have my moments of insecurity I now consider myself a work in progress. I’m so much stronger than I used to be and that’s because I was forced to be. You can’t live your life in fear of what other people think of you all the time. I definitely still have issues with confidence don’t get me wrong. I thank every single person that put me down though because you forced me to go into the lowest place I can imagine being from breaking me down constantly. I will never allow myself to feel that way again. I still have such a far way to go but all of the hateful words said to me just motivate me more to do well and make something of myself to prove everyone wrong. I will not carry those labels. I am who I am and those words don’t define me. I have been learning more and more about myself and my strengths and self-worth. I now know that I am worth so much more than these people made me feel. Had I never been broken down like that, I can’t say that I would be the same person that I am today. So here’s to you because you will be my biggest motivation to succeed in this life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
