Dear Vivienne Harper Stevenson,
There is so much love in the world today. You have decided to greet the world, and we are so excited to welcome you! There is no struggle that the love we have for you could ever exceed. Your small body has changed the life of everyone around you. It only seems fitting to, first, thank you, and give you some advice.
You may never know this, but your existence has helped push your mother through hard times. On her most heart breaking days, I see her look down at her belly and see you. You and Blake gave her a reason to not let the world collapse on her. Vivi, you are simply a miracle in her life. You are the reason she is strong.
Like her, you will be strong too. This life will not be easy. Some days you will feel ugly, some weeks you will feel like an outsider, and some years will be more challenging than others. You will probably have an awkward stage. No, you are related to us, you will definitely have an awkward stage. You will have your heart broken, and no matter what you do there will always be someone to bring you down. This is all okay. Even though it will feel like the world is over, I promise, life will move forward. On the bright side, you will always have your family. I promise, we will never let you lose sight of how miraculously perfect you are.
If you never listen to me again, that is fine. However, please listen when I tell you to never apologize for who you are. Unfortunately, the older you become, the more you will understand of societal expectations. Do not listen to society; listen to your heart. Your head will always drag you down. The right choices are not always be the smart choices. It is okay to make a fool of yourself. The worst decisions sometimes make the best stories. Do not be afraid to learn from life.
With that said, do not give up on your dreams. Dream big. If you want to be a doctor, be the best damn doctor around. Nevertheless, if you want to be an artist, put your whole soul into your work. Success is not measured in money. Materials are temporary, but let your memories never fade. Do not ever do anything you do not love. Simply, you will be wasting your time. Whether you are a starving artist, or a brain surgeon, we will love you all the same.
I cannot wait to meet you. Whoever you are, you are more perfect to me than you will ever understand. No matter where life takes you, I will always be on your side. I hope at the end of your days, you look back and realize how beautifully screwed up the world is. Experience every moment with an open mind and an open heart.
With love,
Aunt Olyvia
