An Open Letter To My Campers

HEY DAY CAMP! (Hey what) This is the last week of camp and there are some things I want to say to you. You have made waking up at 6:30 a.m. every Monday-Friday for these past six weeks worth every minute, and for that I want to thank you. There are hundreds of ways you have made me smile this summer, but here are just a few. Yesterday, one of you came up to me and asked me if stars were happy. "I think they are" I said. Suddenly, I took your question into consideration I thought that stars probably aren't really happy as they know they could explode any minute. While I was deep in thought for a second, you interrupted me and said "I hope they are happy." You all allow me to do this every single day--to put my own worries and negative thoughts aside and focus on your hilarious and carefree attitudes. When I find myself preoccupied with ANYTHING, or no matter how shitty my day is, I know a simple conversation or activity with any one of you can shift my mood in a minute. Second, thank you for letting me be five years old again this summer. I often wonder if I really am your counselor, because I think I enjoy our arts and crafts and Olympic beach ball volleyball more than you do. I'm always eager to tell my friends about the picture of Dory that I colored, swimming in the pool with you guys, and the glitter tornado that we made. I list my daily activities to my friends and family with such excitement that they ask me if I am actually the one attending camp. You know how to have fun and I thank you for sharing that with me. Lastly, thank you for the hugs. ALL OF THE HUGS. I know I can arrive to camp and be greeted every morning with at least eight of your arms around my neck, two or three of you sitting on my lap or hanging onto my legs as I attempt to walk around. I can never feel lonely with all of the love you give! It's going to be strange and sad when I return to college in a few weeks and am without anyone under the age of 18. I will miss singing the Peel Banana song with you and seeing your adorable faces every single day. Thank you for making my summer unforgettable. Until next June, my little munchkins!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
