An Open Letter To My Mom, My Hero

You deserve so much more than just “thank you,” but for now, thank you.

An Open Letter To My Mom, My Hero
Mackenzie McDaniel

Well, mom, look how far I’ve made it, and this is only the beginning. I don’t know where to start beside saying I’m where I’m at all because of you. Please just always remember how appreciated you are. You’re truly my hero.

The way you always push me to do my very best, even when sometimes I can’t stand that you’re always in my business; it's okay because I know you just want what’s best for my brother and me, and I can never say thank you enough for that.

Thank you for making me get a job when I was 15 because you knew it would just help me in the future. You gave me every reason to love my job because the people I work for only want what’s best for me too, and now I take working for granted.

I don’t know how you do it all the time, I really don’t. Constantly making sure I’m okay, always making sure I have everything I need when I need it, and what’s better than the constant love? You’re the most amazing woman in my life, and always will be.

I know life and work can be hard for you, but guess what? You always get through it because you’re just that good. Everything you do is for our crazy, loving family. You sacrifice everything for us. You’re the strongest, most beautiful human I know, and I hope I become everything you are and are going to continue to be.

You deserve so much more than just “thank you,” goodness, trust me, but thank you for everything. I wish I could give you the world.

Thank you for the constant love and motivation when I need it. Thank you for always tagging me in dog pictures on Facebook because you know how much I adore dogs, especially ours.

Thank you for always letting me know that it’s okay that I’m not perfect because like Brad Paisley says, “How boring would that be.” You taught me it’s okay that I make mistakes, and I’m not weak because I cry.

I’m sorry I sometimes chose to hang out with my friends or boyfriend more than you. Sometimes I take those mother-daughter movie dates for granted, and that’s all I want right now.

I’m sorry for yelling at you all those times you wanted me to do my list of chores and I didn’t because “I was too tired” or I just wanted to hang out with my friends. I've now figured out you have always had a reason for all you made me do. You work harder than most people every single day and I’m so thankful for you.

This will never be enough to show my love and appreciation for you. I can’t wait to show off to people in the future I am who I am, all because of you. I can’t wait to spoil you for the rest of your life because you’ve been spoiling me for all of mine.

I love you to the moon and back a million times.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
