An Open Letter To My Guy Friends Back Home

To My Guy Friends Back Home,

It's hard to believe the little group we formed years ago is still together. We've lost some group members along the way, but we gained members as well. It feels like just last week we were preteens, pre-puberty, and doing anything we could to wreak havoc on this small town.

We all thought once we had our licenses, we'd be able to do something a lot more entertaining than just walking up and down the sidewalk of a strip mall or the playground of a school. Now, almost all of us are in our 20s, and we're still doing things like laser tagging or spending the entire day sitting in a garage. Yet, even when the most activity we do all day is get up and drive to get food, I always seem to have an amazing time with you guys.

You keep me laughing and I don't think you realize how much I treasure you guys. I couldn't be more appreciative to have had you in my life the past few years, and I can't thank you enough for all you do for me. And since I know you guys won't read the entire paragraph, I figured I'd list some of the things I'm thankful for that you guys do:

1. Thank you for treating me like one of the guys and not like some girl you invite around just to stare at.

2. Thank you for showing me what guys really do and talk about when girls aren't around.

3. Thank you for including me in all your trips, dumb ideas, and bad decisions.

4. Thank you for showing me that even the toughest guys have a soft "Drake" side.

5. Thank you for always having my back.

6. Thank you for making me realize what I do and do not deserve.

7. Thank you for making sure I don't put up with anyone's BS.

8. Thank you for teasing me with your sarcastic comments and forcing me to learn how to take a joke.

9. Thank you for always calling me out when I'm doing something wrong and stopping me before it gets worse.

10. Thank you for answering my calls at any time when I can't sleep or have nightmares.

11. Thank you for answering my drunken phone calls when I just cry and repeat how much I miss you guys.

12. Thank you for blowing up my phone, even if it's just to get me on Xbox with you guys.

13. Thank you for loving scary stuff and ghost stories just as much as I do.

14. Thank you for always being ready to go on an adventure at the drop of a dime.

15. Thank you for not forgetting about me when I left for college.

16. Thank you for being just as excited to see me when I come home as I am to see you guys.

17. Thank you for loving me like a sister and always treating me like family.

Even though we go to different colleges, I'm so grateful we remained so close. Coming home for breaks would not be nearly as awesome if I didn't have you guys to look forward to. Your names are basically in every story I tell at college about home. I can't imagine the future without you guys in it. I hope we continue making memories for many more years. And I know you'll probably make fun of me for getting sappy with you guys, but just know I miss you guys every day and can't thank you enough for all you do for me.

I love you all.

Love,

Your Non-Biological Sister

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
