Here's To You, Here's To Me, Big & Little We'll Always Be

An Open Letter To My Graduating Big

Dear Big,

I remember going through recruitment like it was yesterday - opening my bid, running out to my new perfect sisters, and meeting you. It was no secret that I was obsessed with you from day one. You took me out on my first Thursday night, walked into my first chapter meetings with me so I wouldn't be alone, showed me where my classes were, and literally became my mom away from home.

When Big/Little week came around, you went out of your way to convince me that you weren't my Big... thanks for the torture. But from the moment I ran out to you, we were inseparable. Since then I have been blessed with you in every aspect of my life. You reassured me a billion times that I wouldn't fail whatever it was that I was studying for, even if I waited until the night before to start studying. You went grocery shopping with me and taught me life hacks that every girl should know. You answered all of my embarrassing questions and never judged me for any of it. You helped me get through my first college heartbreak and taught me how to raise my standards. No matter what the situation was, you were always my biggest cheerleader, and I can't thank you enough for that.

I can't believe that you're graduating and then seeing you every day won't happen anymore. While that is probably one of the scariest thoughts I've had in a while, I also can't explain how proud I am of you. Your insane work ethic, motivation, and drive have all paid off. Oh, and all of those nights you stayed in instead of going out... definitely worth it.

You're moving on and you're going to be in the real world now, a day we thought would never come. Although chapter meetings, dining hall lunch dates, and Thursday nights won't be "our thing" anymore, I can't wait to see how you succeed. You have such a way with caring for others, its unreal. You're going to be absolutely great at anything life throws at you.

Even though you won't be with me every day, the lessons and values you've taught me will be. Thank you for making me who I am today, and hopefully I can be the same role model for someone else that you always have been for me. This might be the end of your college years, but that doesn't mean anything for us.

"I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my Big you'll be."

Love,

Your Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
