Having friends all over the country is a blessing and a curse.
Dear long-distance friends,
When your love language is physical touch, it makes missing you so much worse.
It may have only been a few days since I last saw you, or maybe it's been years. Either way, I miss all of my long-distance friends so much. I see your Instagram pictures, your Facebook posts, and your Snapchat stories. When I see these each day, it makes me insanely miss you. I miss your friendship, your love, and your laughter. When I see you online, it makes me long to see you in person so much more.
If you’re unaware of all the love languages, here are some: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. While most of these can be done long distance through phone calls, text messages, mailing letters, and FaceTime calls, I believe physical touch may be the hardest love language of them all. You can't get physical touch texted, emailed, or called into you. Physical touch has to be done with face-to-face contact.
With my love language being physical touch, I desire to feel your touch when I miss you. I want to feel your warm hugs, and touch your arms when we laugh. I want you to be within an arm's reach of me, so I can reach out and know you’re there. FaceTime and Snapchat satisfy me for now, but I still need the affirmation of you being here. A friendly hug and a knee-slapping laugh would make me feel so loved.
You may be hundreds of miles away, but I know we’ll meet again soon. When that day finally comes, no matter where it may be, expect a running hug when you get out of your car, followed by a long bear hug. While you may not love it as much as I do, something like that means the world to me since it is my first love language.
Since long distance does not help me fill that void of my strongest love language, please help me fulfill the second, quality time. Know that your Snapchats, text messages, and FaceTime calls do mean so much to me as well. Spending that time with me, even though it may not be in person, really shows me that you care. I appreciate the effort, and I feel the love.
Distance is terrible, and I promise to see you in person soon. Isn't that what school breaks are for?
I can't wait for the day we finally get the best "reunited" hug.
With love,
Clay
