When someone asks me what I want to do when I get out of school, the first thing I think of is what am I going to love waking up to for the next 40 years? Being a psychologist is that job for me. Being a psychologist is the study of thoughts, feelings and behavior of humans and using your knowledge to help people with their problems and improve their everyday life.
Becoming a psychologist offers so many different career options. There are many different types of psychologists such as clinical, school, and psychologists that work in clinics and hospitals. You can help people struggling with addiction, disorders and finding coping skills to deal with loss. It offers the opportunity to have multiple jobs. Becoming a psychologist has been something I wanted to do for a long time now because of the type of person I am, I always want to help people and just listen to them if they have a problem and try my best to find things to help them cope. Of course there is more involved then just listening, but that's what makes me interested. Being in psychology classes in college has taught me that there is so much that comes along with different disorders and how they need to be treated. Treating people is a process, you have to build trust, help them realize what is going on and then begin to treat them. I want to get into the criminal field because I want to figure out the reasons why criminals do what they do and what about them is different then everyone else. I would like to help people that are depressed and suicidal and do my best to catch those things before they happen. Due to personal experiences, I can tell you that losing someone due to these things is so hard, and being able to help someone get out of that situation would be an amazing feeling. I really want to study disorders as well. They really interest me because of how the mind works differently in everyone. Chemical makeups in the brain are what causes different disorders or feelings to happen.
Psychology is such an amazing field because it is something that will never die down; computers can never take over the face to face contact people have. The relationship between a therapist and patient is where the trust is built and it's the only way that the patient can start the process of being treated. The brain and body will never change, people are always going to need some type of treatment wether its medication or just therapy.
Psychology,
Thank you for giving me such a broad spectrum to work with. Thank you for giving people the opportunity to treat people with these different disorders and give them the skills to help themselves everyday. I am always striving to achieve my goals, to make sure that I can succeed in helping people in ways that will help them live out everyday life.
From,
A Future Psychologist
