An Open Letter To My College Best Friend
Jessica Harper

If there is a thing such as fate, it was definitely on my side the day that we moved into college.

Although I tried my best to play it cool, my nerves were actually all over the place on move-in day. I was extremely excited at the thought of making new friends, but the daunting fear of not being able to find "my person" somehow kept finding its way into my thoughts.

In a group full of other first year students, I noticed a girl who reminded me a lot of myself. We were roughly the same height (short), we had similar styles, and we laughed at the same goofy little things. We hit it off immediately and started talking as if we'd known each other our whole lives. From that moment on, I felt confident in knowing that I was lucky enough to find "my person" on the very first day. I can't even begin to tell you how much of a blessing that was. We have so much more in common than I could have imagined. It is actually kind of weird how alike we are! From our experiences in life to our interests and goals--it's nice knowing that I have someone who genuinely understands and knows where I'm coming from. I know that I can come to you with absolutely anything, no matter how crazy, and you will give me your honest, most heartfelt opinion (with a little sarcasm). You truly have one of the biggest hearts out of anyone who I have ever met. Meeting you has been just as valuable, if not more, than earning a degree.

In just one semester, you have made my whole college experience worth it. Not to mention that I probably would have dropped out three times already if it wasn't for you keeping me sane. It's so refreshing knowing that there are still kind souls like you left in this world and that I'm lucky enough to call you one of my best friends. There is absolutely no one else who I'd rather eat salads for lunch and dinner with every day, take late night chocolate chip cookie runs to McDonald's, freak out over "The Bachelor," or belt out "Frozen" songs at the top of my lungs with. You're my first college friend and my best college friend. You're the support that gets me through my toughest finals and you're the laughter that I need after a long day. You're the proof that it doesn't matter how long you know someone, they can still have a huge piece of your heart.

No matter where you go next year, just know that you'll always be right here with me. Thank you so much for everything, friend. I love you.

PS: if this were "The Bachelor," you definitely would have received the first impression rose.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
