An Open Letter To My Best Friend Soon To Be Miles Away

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about us going our separate ways for college, but then again, that’s what we do best.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend Soon To Be Miles Away

To my best friend,

We may not have the classic best friend story, but we do have a friendship that will extend past when we are all old and wrinkly. When we first became best friends is sort of a blur. One day I woke up and there we were, telling each other our deepest secrets. We definitely do not have memories as kids together, but we do have uncomfortably awkward pictures from middle school. We never got to have those late night cram sessions the night before finals or the cliché but still cute graduation and prom photos. Even though through all these years I missed out on some very important events, it never changed the fact that we are best friends … because you would just fill me in on all the details and make me feel as if I was there after all.

You have changed my life for the better. You have always been my shoulder to cry on even from 4,300 miles away. When my grandparents passed away you were there to let me talk through my feelings without judgement. You have let me talk endlessly about a boy and then picked up the pieces to my broken heart when it did not work out. Through all the obstacles life has thrown my way you were always there to guide me through the toughest situations and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I would be lying if I said I was not nervous about us going our separate ways for college, but then again, that's what we do best. Through our entire friendship we have always done our own things but still managed to be together in spirit. Going our separate ways does not mean we won't ever talk or see each other again. We will just be doing our own things in life while always making time to catch up and rejoice on our many memories. When you decided to go to private school after 8th grade I was not sure what would happen to our friendship, but now I know that we can still be best friends even without seeing each other every day in school.

I know the distance between our colleges will not destroy our friendship because we were able to stay friends for such a long time without constantly seeing each other. I honestly cannot wait for our first phone call after the first day of college to hear about all the cool things Lafayette has to offer you and most importantly to hear about the cute boys. You are going to do amazing things in your lifetime. I know for a fact that college will not change your strong sense of morals and your inspiring passions in life. You have never let peer pressure control how you live and that is what I love most about you. Every day you inspire me to make better and smarter choices in my life. There definitely will not be a day that I won’t think of you (especially since we have to keep up our Snapchat streak).

You are not only my best friend, but you have also become the sister I never had. So, thank you for all your support. Thank you for being my #1 fan in everything I do. Thank you for standing up for what you believe in and inspiring others. Thank you for all the things you have done for me. I look forward to our future as best friends beginning a new chapter of our lives in college. So, here’s to our years of being best friends and the years to come!

Love,

Your best friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
