Before I even get into the letter, I thought that I would just make this clear. This is not an open letter to myself as though it may seem because my best friend and I have the same name. WOW! Best friend goals! Even crazier we were born a week apart! Okay, now it is time for the letter.
Sometimes it is hard to say these words in person so I am writing you this letter to say it for me.
Dear Gianna Natalie Acquavella,
I am writing this to simply say thank you. Thank you for everything! Thank you for the past 14 years. It is so crazy to think that it has been this long. I am truly one lucky girl to have had you by my side for this long and love me for who I am and never let me go. Thank you.
Thank you for knowing me like the back of your hand. Thank you for being there for me. Oh, gosh, I sure do have a lot of drama and problems in my life and no one would ever be able to withstand it, besides you. Thank you for cheering me up and making me laugh on days where I don't even want to smile. Thank you for standing up for me when I can't do it myself. Thank you for believing in me when I am not even able to believe in myself at times. Thank you for protecting me from the boys that try to break my heart. When I am close to giving up, you are my strong backbone. When I am so close to ending everything, you tell me that I am a star and that I will be okay. You make sure of that. When I am with you I can be my crazy spunky self, with no pretense, and I am accepted and loved for the way I am. Thank you for being the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I cannot put into words how grateful I am.
Sometimes I feel bad for the girls who don't have you in their lives. Obviously, I refuse to share you. You are always going to be mine #sorrynotsorry. They should already know that we are going to travel the world and to marry two best friends and have our own kids that will be best friends at birth. Like duh!!
You are my other half and I would not be surviving without you. Without you here, life would not be complete. You are the person who knows me better than I know myself at times. Going to different schools, living half an hour away, work and sports schedules, and not having our licenses make it sometimes impossible for us to spend time together. But when we are together, it feels as if we have never been apart. Being with you makes me laugh and even cry.
I love you for being the wonderful person that you are and for the beauty that you bring into my life just by being there. You make my life a whole lot brighter and wash all the storm clouds away. I love you for all the fun we have together and for the many laughs we share. I love you for just being you!
I can see the day when we are 80 years old, sitting in our rocking chairs, laughing at all of the dumb things we've done. When it all comes down to it, no amount of "thank you's" could describe how grateful I am to have a best friend like you. You're the Cristina to my Meredith, the star to my bucks the best to my friend. Thank you times a million for being my person.
