To My Baby Sister Who's Somehow 16 Years Old Already
Janae Thomas

I have been blessed with a huge, strong and loving family. I have learned many things from each member of my family and I continue to learn more from them every day. Because of this, I wish to teach my sister a few things to spare her some trouble. Here is my honest, loving, and important letter to my sister.

To my Dearest Sister,

First of all, I would like to say thank you.

Thank you for being my best friend and sister.

Thank you for always having my back and always loving me.

Thank you for always teaching things that I could only learn from you.

You have taught me things that you didn't even mean to and for that, I am very grateful. But in return, I have a few things to tell you, be sure to listen very closely.

The first thing you should do is always listen to mom. Yes, she may be annoying sometimes but everything that she says is for a reason. Everything that she says will come back full circle. The time that you have with her is very precious and important. She is teaching you how to go into the world and make an impact. So listen very closely and take notes. One day you'll miss hearing those little comments!

Next, you need to always invest in yourself. You are just as important as everyone else and you need to remember that. You must continue to believe in yourself even when others may not. If there's something that you want in this world go get it! Only you have the ability to do it. Investing in yourself may mean taking a weekend off to study or do homework. A little goes a long way and what you do now starts the path to your future.

Another thing, cherish family time! we have such a huge family and we are very lucky. Always spend time with our younger sisters because they look up to you. They take note of everything that you do and determine if that is something that they want to do. Continue to lead by example and do not take for granted the time you have with them. Remember that not all families are as close as we are.

I saved the best for last! I know you don't want to hear it but it needs to be said. Do not waste your time when it comes to boys! Those same boys will be there in two years and maybe even five! What I mean by this is it's okay to be in a relationship. But, if they want you to focus more on them instead of yourself you have an issue. I know that you're going to meet a few bad guys but just keep on moving. Nobody can define you except yourself.

So continue to grow and let whatever happens happen! And don't worry I will always be two steps ahead of you so, I'll handle those few bad ones!

Anyways, just continue to live life and have fun! Never take for granted all that you have because even when you think you have nothing, there's someone out there who really has nothing. Continue to grow and don't be afraid to try new things! The more things you try the more likely you are to find your passion.

I hope that you take these few things and make a change if you feel needed. Never take for granted what God has given you and remember that everything is his plan, not yours.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
