If you’re reading this, I want to tell you first of all that I understand what you’re going through. My depression started when I was 14 and didn’t start to go away until I was 18. Unfortunately, depression isn’t really an uncommon thing anymore, but know that it’s only temporary.

I know there are days when you wake up and you just already assume the day is going to be terrible. From the minute you open your eyes, you feel like shit. You can’t seem to control your mood and nothing seems to make you happy. I get it. This is where you have to find the strength to overcome those feelings. Accepting them will not get you far. For me, taking a hot shower, making myself a nice breakfast, and reading a good book is what usually changes my outlook on a bad day. You just have to find things that can stimulate a happier mood and sometimes those things involve taking care of yourself. Taking care of your body really makes a huge impact. Not just your body, but your mind too. The things you hear, see, smell, taste and feel can all play a role in your emotional state.

Everyone has their good days and their bad days, but the fact that you wake up each morning and still have the strength to take on the world proves how much you’re needed. This world needs more people like you. People who are strong and driven. People who show courage and aren’t afraid to dream big. People who are kind and patient. You’re a unique individual, and you’re going to do so many great things in this lifetime.

I know right now things are tough. You’re going through a transition and learning how to be an adult, basically. And that’s really hard. But you can’t just throw in the towel and not do anything to help yourself. You have to take small, yet effective steps that will allow change to happen. It’s hard to feel motivated to take these steps, but at some point it has to be done. Just know that you’re not going through it alone. I’ll be here for you.

This world is complex and sometimes we question the things that do or don’t happen to us. But everything happens for a reason, and there’s a time for everything. I know you have so many goals and things you want to do with your life, and that’s a great thing; however, we can’t always choose when those things happen. And that’s nothing to be discouraged about. Enjoy each day as it comes and appreciate the things that you already have and already can do. Those things are important too.

I know depression leaves you feeling like you have no control over your life or your emotions, and that’s not completely true. You’re in complete control of your life. You can choose how to spend your days, and you should spend them doing things you love and things that interest you. If that doesn’t help, you can always call me. I’ll come keep you company.

I know it’s been tough, but you can’t sit around and

wait for things to get better. You have to make them better by making some adjustments in your life. This will take time and patience, but I believe you can do it. And if you fail today, there’s always tomorrow.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
