All throughout high school you tried to just get by and kept saying “I just need to graduate”. I know because I was sitting in your shoes this time last year. These past four years have been filled with good times and bad, tears of joy and tears of sadness. I was anxiously waiting for the mail to come every day to see if I got into college or if I was going to be stuck home for the next year. But you will get into college, everyone does, and everyone finds the right school for them.
Now you probably just started your last semester of high school. And you are already counting down the days till graduation, but remember it will come in the blink of an eye. I did not realize how fast it will all come. Please take it all in, day by day and enjoy each moment. It’s the little things that you will miss, that you take for granted on a daily basis. I know I did. Take in everything, your morning coffee runs with your mom on Saturday mornings, being able to eat your mom's home cooking, being able to drive wherever you want whenever you want, having your own space and everything in between.
These next few months are going to be filled with tons of emotions you probably will not know how to handle them. You’ll have mixed emotions about everything. You don’t know if you chose the right college to attend in the fall, your anxious about not living at home next year, and are just so nervous about what the future will hold for you. I felt this exact same way, everyone does.
Now being in second semester of my freshman year I realize how much I took everything for granted at home. And how I wish that I did not rush my time at home. All I kept saying my senior year was I cannot wait to get away from this town and be at college already.
High school will be done in a flash. You will be taking pictures at prom, walking down the field for graduation and throwing your caps in the air with your graduating class. It will all be over before you know it and you will be starting your new life with all new people. There will be times that it is hard and you just want to go back to your old life and have a normal day that “used” to be your life. But that now is your old life and college is your new life. Enjoy your last few months at home. Trust me it will be worth it!
