An Open Letter To DC's Country Junction
Ray Freeland

Dear DC's Country Junction,

First off, I want to start off by saying you are missed. You were around for such a long time and you were visited by a lot of the same people every Saturday night. I miss visiting you. I couldn't wait each week to learn a new line dance and I miss dancing all night until my feet hurt. I miss putting on my stompin' boots and shaking it on the floor with my girls. I miss the bean bag games, the burgers, and eating candy without feeling guilty about it because I knew I would be burning off all of the calories from dancing anyway. I miss stepping outside for a few minutes when it would be too hot to stay in the barn. I miss you, DC's...

Secondly, I would like to thank you for all of the memories you have brought me along with a lot of other people, including my parents. It was always interesting to meet new people there, to hear others' stories, to hear where other people were from in the area, and to bond with friends until I couldn't dance anymore.

Next, I would like to say that without you, my Saturday nights in high school to visits home on the weekend would've consisted of doing nothing, except working occasionally. Looking forward to a Saturday night with some of the same girls was one of my favorite stress relievers for the week. I enjoyed getting ready and asking my friends what they would be wearing so I didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Also, you helped me to push myself, mentally, by allowing me to strive for perfection when dancing and you also allowed me to have fun.

In addition, I enjoyed showing new people to you, while showing everyone how great they could dance! I brought a few first-timers and they loved you (as of what they told me)! I would also enjoy hearing them talk about their experience with other people and how they were amazed at how well some of the people could dance, including myself. I also loved these people meeting some of the people I consider my best friends and getting a taste of what it's like out in the country.

Lastly, I would like to thank you for some of the amazing friendships I've made because of you. Without you, I wouldn't have met some of my lifelong friends. You were my favorite place where I would spend every Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. And without you, I wouldn't have experienced some of the best times of my life. As of January 30, 2015 you are no longer with us.

Thank you, DC's Country Junction, for the numerous things you've done for me along with other people.

Sincerely,

A girl who'll always love you

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
