Dear College Kids,
It’s that time of year. Whether you’re a freshmen or a senior or someone who’s in grad school. It’s the start of a new semester and you’re on your way or one step closer to walking across that stage and receiving your degree in whatever it may be you are studying for. Some of us have been “in school” for a week already, the boring syllabus week of course, or some of you may just be moving in. You may be excited for this semester, you may be nervous because you know that one or two classes may cause you great stress and you aren’t sure you will do as great as you may hope to do, and you may be sad because you’re leaving home maybe for the first time or just because you really love being home and not being away from everyone. However, being at college is one of the best experiences you can ever have in life. But in this letter, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t all rainbows and butterflies.
Everyone has to understand that college takes a lot of commitment. It takes effort and dedication. Just like being on a sports team or in a club/organization. Some classes are easier than others. And of course some may be interesting and some may be just dull and boring. And yet, we all have to get through it. We all do. Just remember to take it day by day. Always make time for yourself. Make new friends. You may have one or five mental breakdowns because you’re stressed with classes or just upset with life and it’s understandable and it’s okay. Just know that you’re there to have fun and to enjoy all the opportunities that college is willing to give you or throw at you. You’re there to learn and to grow as an individual. You’re here to try new things and go through experiences, whether they are good or bad, to let you discover who you are as a person and what you want in this thing called life.
I wish you all the best of luck this semester. Don’t overthink it. Make the best of it. And I hope and pray that the odds will be ever in your favor.
With much love to my fellow college mates,
A college girl starting her sophomore year
