To My High School Friends, Thanks For The Memories

To My High School Friends, Thanks For The Memories

Dear high school friends,

Remember when we first met each other? We were so young, restless, and excited for where the future would take us. We would sit in the hallways together doing work (and procrastinate). Our eyes would glaze over during math class when all we wanted was for the period to be over. We stayed up late on our shared Google Docs, laughing at memes and helping each other edit essays the day before it was due. And we would always complain about how much we hated school and couldn’t wait until we graduated while knowing deep down that we would actually miss it.

Although we spent time together this summer, it’s going to end differently this year. We aren’t going to be in the same classrooms in the fall. Our new environments will feel strange and unfamiliar without each other. And even though some of you are going to college close to me, some of you are going to be miles and miles away.

And that’s OK.

Regardless of where we are and where we’re going, we’ll always remain close. We can always count on each other, make each other laugh, and be there when times get tough, just like we did in high school. We will always have our inside jokes and (way too many) group chats to look back at, and given how small our grade was, we definitely will never forget all the memories we made.

Thank you for making my high school experience better (and making it more worth it to drag myself to school every day.) I knew that we could rely on each other whenever we needed help or just some cheering up. And while I am sad that we won’t see each other as often anymore, I know that nothing, not even time or distance, can break us up.

I’m going to miss high school because of you all. I’m going to miss the fact that we all had one favorite teacher (you know who I’m talking about.) I’m going to miss going to the deli together during lunch. And I’m going to miss the special bond we shared.

I wish you all the best of luck in college and the years to come. I know that you have bright futures ahead of you and that you can do anything you set your mind to.

I can’t wait until the next time we can see each other!

Love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
