An Ode To Joyce Leslie

An Ode To Joyce Leslie

Shopping: noun, the purchasing of goods from stores.

Joyce Leslie was one of my favorite stores to shop in. I didn't even realize how many of my clothes were from that store until it went out of business, leaving my closet and I sad and alone. Since then, I have been trying to find another store like it, and even though similar ones do exist, it just isn't the same. I've decided to write an ode to the store to help me through it leaving.

Dear Joyce Leslie,

I am going to miss....

1. Your Dresses

I would say I have a slight obsession with dresses. I have two closets in my room, and one is dedicated to just dresses. After a quick look in that closet, anyone can see that most them are from Joyce Leslie. I only have one dress left from Joyce Leslie that I haven't worn yet, and the idea that this will never happen again is hard to handle.

2. The Summer Clothing Sale

At the end of the season, Joyce Leslie would sell their summer clothes for super cheap. I would spend $20 and come home with four tops, two pairs of shorts and a bathing suit. I'm not even exaggerating. Some of my favorite pieces of clothing came from the Joyce Leslie summer clothing sale and I will forever be appreciative of the prices.

3. Learning About Trends

Joyce Leslie always had the newest trends out and on display. They were the first to have some of the trends that you may not have even thought would last. The mannequins were always dressed better than anyone I knew.

4. The Locations

There was always a Joyce Leslie anywhere you needed one. Going to the mall? There's one there! In a shopping center, standing alone, you name it, where ever you were going, Joyce Leslie was there for you.

5. The Uniqueness

Because Joyce Leslie was always changing the clothes they had in the store, I never felt like everyone that shopped there wore the same clothes. One of my pet peeves is seeing someone who has the same outfit I do, so shopping at Joyce Leslie always gave me the opportunity to have something unique.

6. The Options

Joyce Leslie had everything. Clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories, key chains, bathing suits and more. Basically, if you wanted something, they'd have it.

All of this talk about Joyce Leslie legitimately makes me sad. My friend and I recently went shopping and talked about Joyce Leslie for the whole car ride. My hope by writing this article is that the people at Joyce Leslie will see it and bring the store back. That would be nice. For now, I'll just bask in the glory of my comfy sweater and leggings from the store and wear all of my fun dresses Joyce Leslie has provided for me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
