It's every Greek's favorite holiday out of the entire year. We mark it on our calendars two months in advance. We plan our whole weekend around that day, and we celebrate it like it's Christmas — it's "Fratmas!"
Fraternity bid day is a fantastic tradition for a few reasons;
1. Fraternity rivalry doesn't exist on bid day. Greek unity is among us as we all rejoice this glorious holiday. People pull stupid pranks and join other fraternities, but they know they are all fraternity men now, and they are only concerned with celebrating with their brothers, old and new.
2. Everyone you know comes out, and it feels like you're surrounded by all your best friends, and you, more than likely, will make a ton of new ones. You might hop from house to house or just stay with one fraternity, either way, you'll see a bunch of people you know and everyone is in the best mood.
3. Bid day shirts are the best shirts to get. Tons of girls wear awesome Comfort Colors shirts celebrating your fraternity with you and are proud to represent that fraternity.
4. We celebrate young men making a decision to join an organization to better themselves in every way. The whole point of bid day is to celebrate the new additions to fraternities, but more importantly, it reminds the actives why they joined such a great organization in the first place — everything they have gained from their fraternity and the lifelong brotherhood that will never die.
While sorority bid day is full of rush crushes running into your arms, putting glitter everywhere and taking 300 pictures, it honestly doesn't compare to fraternity bid day. We wake up at the crack of dawn with our best friends to start pregaming and "get all dolled up." We arrive at the fraternity kick-off celebration with the boys. Then, all of Greek life caravans to a certain spot to welcome home all their pledges, and we celebrate until about 2 p.m. Inevitably, we all nap and shower and rehydrate for the night festivities. During these night festivities, we just keep the raging going from earlier in the day.
No matter what house you're in, what your traditions or values are, or even who you are, fraternity bid day is about celebrating making the best decision you made your whole life — going Greek and gaining the experience of a lifetime. Never forget why you went Greek or why you chose the organization you did, because it's exactly where you're supposed to be, and you should always be proud to wear your letters no matter what anyone, including the media, says about Greek life.
Happy bid day, boys! Rage on.
