Dear Mom,
Obviously, this is a thank you letter. How could it not be? You literally gave me life, and that's certainly something to thank you for. But this is not only a thank you letter.
It's an "I'm sorry" letter-- for all those times in my teenage years that I took you for granted and never quite appreciated the way you constantly bended over backwards for me.
It's an "I get it now" letter-- for all the times you gave me advice I didn't agree with at the time, but now understand completely.
But yes, above all, it's a thank you letter-- because you have shaped me into who I am today, and I truly could not be more grateful.
Thank you for loving me so much that my burdens become your burdens, and my happiness becomes your own. You are the most selfless woman I know. I am not able to fathom how I could have handled some of the curveballs life has thrown at me without your genuine love and unfailing support. I hope I never get to old to call you for guidance and encouragement.
Thank you for being the person I can always go to, no matter what. Knowing you'll always be there, just a phone call away, is so reassuring. I don't know how you haven't gotten tired of me going on and on about myself and my own problems yet, but I guess that's just part of being a mom.
I don't know how I could have gotten through some of the situations I have over the past few years without you. There were times that seemed very dark for me, and you were always there with the bright light that is your positive attitude, helping guide me through the tough stuff. I'm sure you spent nights lying awake with worry about me, and I'm sorry I've put you through some of what I did.
I feel like a "thank you" could never encompass the kind of gratitude that I feel and I so wish I could show you. I hope you understand how grateful I am for your selfless love. Ultimately, you have shown me the kind of person and mother I hope to someday be.
I want my children to feel the way you have always made me feel -- loved and hopeful. You have shown me that there is never a situation too bleak to give up hope and that a positive and optimistic attitude will always yield better results than a negative one.
Thank you for being a constant in my life. Your unfailing love has shaped me into who I am, and I hope I make you proud. Thank you, Mom. You know, for everything,
Love,
Your Daughter
