Why I Support The Police Even In Today’s Society
NYDailyNews.com

All over the news you see headlines about police brutality, riots against police and anything else negative towards police officers. Not only in the news, but negativity towards police is prevalent in music, movies and even some TV shows. Few know that my father is a police officer, so I’m grateful enough to see a side of them that most don’t see. Stating that part of my life now make this article seem biased, but it’s not. This is my own independent opinion. Negativity towards the police needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.

The main reason that I support the police, even with the obvious hatred towards them that’s highly noted in today’s society, is that these are the men and women who are stopping the criminals so we can be safe in our homes at night. These are the individuals that make it so we can leave the safety of our homes to go shopping, visit friends and even go to school. Without police, our country would be a madhouse full of crime. There’s always going to be a few bad apples in every city’s police department, but saying that all police are bad is like saying that all Americans are overweight. The public who says that all police are bad are just adding on to yet another stereotype in America.

These men and women should be looked at as heroes. They are the real-life superheroes. They are the ones fighting crime in our cities like Batman does in Gotham City. They risk their lives every day that they go into and every time they walk outside in their uniform. We always hear of police being overly violent towards pedestrians, but you never hear of any violence happening to police. This is a thing that happens, but because it doesn’t attract attention or rile up the media’s viewers, we don’t see it written or spoken about in media at all. Now, this isn’t me saying that we shouldn’t broadcast anything about police brutality because it is something that’s prevalent in society now. Just because there are those police officers that are violent towards the seemingly innocent, doesn’t mean that the public should act out toward them. These men and women who protect our cities should be given the same respect that is given to the firefighters.

I had previously stated that I grew up with my dad as a cop, so I know what it’s like for the police families and what we have to go through. I won’t go into detail because that’s an article for another week. With all of the riots and violence towards police, I never stop worrying about my dad when he does go into work and every other police officer in America. But the only thing that I can do for them is pray for them. I pray hard and daily for the men and women who prevent crime from overruling our cities. I was strolling through Mardel and a small card caught my eye. It was listed as a prayer for the men and women who are working as the police officers. It says:

Each day is an adventure, your life is on the line protecting and defending, a hero by design. You face the threat of danger, but your faith gives you the nerve; you keep your eyes on God and an open heart to serve. The world’s a better place because of what you do, and all because of people with a caring heart like you!

Now, I wasn’t using this article to try and persuade anyone to support the police in the same way that I do. Just know that they aren’t all bad, and they do have a caring heart because they continue to rid our cities of crime the best they can, even with very little support. I hope that in the future they will receive the respect they so desperately deserve. I can’t wait to be able to be able to do it someday. I support the police, and nothing can change my mind. Thank you to all who risk their lives to make our’s better. Not only to the police but also to the firefighters and America’s military.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
