A "quarter life crisis." You probably won't realize it's happening until it's already halfway over, but for many collegiate twenty-somethings, it's pretty inevitable. Anything can trigger it: trauma, love, an epiphany, or even the lack of something at all.
If it does happen, there are a few things you should probably do: take a deep breath, talk to your advisor before you change your major, and maybe get away for a while. My favorite way to get away is to grab a pint (ice cream or beer, your choice) and watch a movie, or a couple episodes of a T.V. show. Next time you think you might actually start pulling your hair out, maybe sit back and take the time to catch one of these:
1. "Master of None"
Aziz Ansari is definitely a jack of all trades, but I really think he has mastered one. This 10 episode Netflix Original Series is a great social commentary on life in the 21st century. Its quirkiness and ability to point out that nothing goes as planned is something every college student can understand.
2. "Drinking Buddies"
This film tells the story of two brewery-working best friends and their significant others, who go on a retreat one weekend, only to bring back some pretty tough baggage. Featuring a pretty kick-ass cast, the character portrayal is almost too real, and too relatable as well.
3. "Liberal Arts"
When 35-year-old Jesse returns to his alma mater one weekend, he gets a little side-tracked when he meets a young student, who also happens to be an old colleague's daughter. Things, naturally, get complicated through the rest of the film. Filled with some humor, this movie touches on life's inability to work out how we expect or want it to.
4. "New Girl"
The quintessential "it's complicated" T.V. show, "New Girl" gives us everything we want in a show. I don't throw this around lightly, but it's pretty much 2014's "Friends." The main character is Jessica Day, whose life gets even more eccentric after moving in with three guys in a city apartment. With three seasons on Netflix and a fourth to come, it's sure to keep your mind at ease for a few days.
5. "Short Term 12"
This film follows a caregiver for troubled youth who begins to slowly lose herself at the same time as when new resident arrives. This heartfelt movie, while sad at times, will give you the inspriational realization of your own ability to overcome hard times.
