While we are locked down for what feels like forever, with every day that passes we find ourselves looking for more and more things to keep us occupied. That's where 'Among Us' comes in. Despite being a game made all the way back in 2018, it suddenly hit a resurgence in the past few months, and that is no coincidence.
It is the perfect game to socialize with friends over miles of distance. It's no wonder why even non-gamers are drawn to this fantastic game. But what is 'Among Us'?
Have you ever played 'Mafia'? Or a game called 'Werewolf'? Or maybe even 'Town of Salem'?
If so, then you know exactly what 'Among Us' is. For those who haven't played these games, it is what's known as a hidden role game. The premise is that you and your friends are all on a team, except for one secret turncoat. This traitor is usually trying to do anything from getting away with murder to sabotaging the larger group's chance at winning. In 'Among Us', it is specifically the crew mates of a spaceship versus the secret murderous imposter.
The reason 'Among Us' is so unique, however, is that it is one of few online secret role games. If you're a crew mate, you're racing around the ship trying to complete tasks as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the imposters are trying to kill all the crew without getting caught.
However, if the crew finish all of the tasks, or finds all of the imposters, the crew wins.
The best feature, though, is the voting system. Like many secret role games, there is a voting session. If a body is found or if someone hits the emergency button, all members of the ship are given a short window of time where they can discuss who the imposter may be or to lie your way to victory. This can be a chance for ace detectives to solve the mystery or for imposters to outwit their opponents for the win. It's tons of fun and a guaranteed good time.
The best part? It's free on all smartphones! All you have to do to play is load up your phone and send a room code to your friends, and you're all set! So, if you have been desperate for some company and for something to do while staying safe and social distancing, give 'Among Us' a try!
